Wind map for Tuesday, it's going to be very ugly for LA/MS.  These are the kinds of things you normally see in the spring that cause widespread massive thunderstorms and tornados.

Imref  - what's it showing for 12/31 - 1/2 on the east coast?  It's early, but I'm trying to figure out the best day to drive back.

JCA - still too early for the 12/31-1/1 window, last I saw the models showed a good chance of a nor'easter though.

here's the snow/ice map for wed-thurs from wxrisk.com:

Got about 2 inches of snow here yesterday. Nothing serious, but made driving to work interesting.

I left Friday from gulfport from tech school. Looks like I got out of there just in time. I know a couple people who stayed during Christmas exodus, so hopefully nothing major happens down there.

An ape throwing crap will hit the side of a barn once in awhile.

How many years in the 80s had a ton of snow?  7 years over 10 inches total in the 80s, 6 in the 90s, 6 in the 00s, and 1 in the 10s so far.

The following identifies 2 major snow storms in the 80s, 3 in the 90s, and 3 since 2000:  http://www.erh.noaa.gov/lwx/winter/DC-Winters.htm

I grew up here and it's pretty much the same as it's always been if not a bit more snowy these days.

Hey Smithian, hope you were safe today.  Lots of intense weather in your area, as I understand it.

warming should actually increase the chance of big snow storms by pumping more moisture into the air, but over time there will be less events.

People who dismiss global warming might as well join the Flat-Earth society.  There's no denying the Earth is warmer than it was 50 years ago.

You can debate the causes if you want to, but denying the Earth is warmer is idiocy.

How about this for an almost-White-Christmas? Snow this morning...a few stray flakes (at  least in south Arlington) Monday afternoon...but nothing on Christmas proper.

We had snow Xmas Eve enough for the ground top be white the next day and is snowing again today.  Supposedly 1" but there's already more than that.

And this is also the first time Global Warming has ever happened too :smh:

And this is also the first time Global Warming has ever happened too :smh:

it's the first time it's ever happened without a corresponding natural phenomena.  There haven't been any orbital changes, changes in solar output, or any other natural events that have caused past warming.  The only correlating factor is rising atmospheric CO2.

There's a simple way to dismiss global warming as a result of man-made activities:
1. Prove the planet isn't warming (all the data says it is)

Or:
1. Prove that CO2 isn't a greenhouse gas (we've known for 100 years that it is)
2. Prove that atmospheric CO2 isn't rising (it is)
3. Prove that rising CO2 isn't the result of human activity (we know that it is from isotope analysis)

Minty is right, we have more scientific evidence of warming from human activities than we do for many other well-adopted theories.

I said you can debate the causes if you'd like, but there's no denying the Earth is warmer now than it has been over the past 150 years - at least you can't deny it unless you've been eating lead paint.

Never said it wasn't. But let's not pretend that this isn't a cyclical (sp?) event. How much of the earth was covered with ice/snow 10,000 years ago? Has our emissions spead up the process? I have no doubt, but like I said, this isn't a new phenominom.

which is great, but the agriculture needed to maintain modern society doesn't work in an ice age- we'll see about a period of warming

We're due to enter another phase - an ice age.  We should be through the warm phase, headed colder for the next 100,000 years.

And did I say it wasn't cyclical?  I left my personal opinion out of it and hitched my PoV for that particular point on the stats (I should think terp and JCA would be proud of me...  ).  I was simply refuting the new guy's claim that global warming was a "myth."
