I like deep leagues.  If we are playing mixed then 20 teams is fine.  Kinda like last year's league with 16 teams.

Yeah, but anything over like 12 is ridic.  Shouldn't we just have multiple leagues or something?

If it gets above 14, I'll drop roster spots (3 of vs 5, 1 catcher ... to keep the player pool the same)

I sincerely doubt we get 20- I'd be happy if we can muster 12

I got the invite email but I can't confirm it until I get home from work, the fantasy section of ESPN is blocked.

I apologize if there is already a topic for this, but after a quick look I did not find any. I just did a 12 man draft, 20 dollar league and I wanted everyone's opinion on my results. There are 21 slots, the rules are that you play head to head against someone elses' team each week in a variety of different categories and depending on how you do that is your record.

Here are the categories for the league I am participating in...
Hitting Categories
RBI
Home Runs
Stolen Bases
Batting Average
Runs
OBP
SLG
Hits
Grand Slams
Hitting for the Cycle

Pitching Categories
ERA
WHIP
Wins
Saves
Strikeouts
Blown Saves
Losses
Shutouts
Complete Games
Quality Starts
Perfect Games

With the 11th pick in the draft I selected... Justin Upton. Here is how the rest of my team turned out.

C-Carlos Santana (can also be slotted in at 1B)
1B-Ike Davis
2B-Michael Cuddyer(Can also be slotted in at 1B and OF)
SS-Starlin Castro
3B-Evan Longoria
OF-Justin Upton
OF-Alex Gordon
OF-Shin-Soo Choo
UTIL-BJ Upton/Jemile Weeks

SP-David Price
SP-Gio Gonzalez
RP-Sergio Santos
RP-Sean Marshall
P(Any Pitcher)-Matt Moore
P-Brandon Beachy
P-Edwin Jackson

B(Bench)- BJ Upton(OF)/Jemile Weeks(2B)
B-Chad Billingsley (P)
B-Adam LaRoche (1B)
B-Nick Markakis(OF)
B-Empty Slot

IR-Chase Utley (I selected him in the 21st round)

A few notable free agents if any of you have suggestions as to who I should fill my empty slot with...
Hitters
Peter Bourjos(OF)
Stephen Drew(SS)
Justin Morneau(1B)
Vernon Wells(OF)
Colby Rasmus(OF)

Pitchers
Jhoulys Chacin(SP)
Brett Anderson(SP)
Jonathan Sanchez(SP)
Roy Oswalt(SP)
Carlos Marmol(RP)
Jonathan Broxton(RP)
Francisco Rodriguez(RP)

Thanks for any input!

If auction draft, I'm in.  Of course date and time will be critical as well - I'm knee deep in the rehearsal process right now and my nights are limited.

we're at six, unless we can get up to 12, I think I'm going to fold the league

Had a weird AL 4x4 dynasty roto draft today. First, drafting this late is strange because 1st period stats are retroactive.   We've drafted for years on the first Saturday after OD, but this year, 3 owners could not commit, so we made it second Saturday.   I went in with 3 decent starters (Wilson, Beckett, and Hochevar), a cheap but vullnerable closer (Nathan), and a setup guy who might get a few saves (Matt Thornton :az: ) for $42, and 3 position players - Hamilton, Zobrist, and Gardner - for $73.  I had $5 left over from last year, so I needed 15 for $150.  I filled out the staff for cheap (Farnsworth, S. Baker, Wheeler, and D. Oliver) for about $20, so I spent about $130 more on offense.  The offense end up pure stars and scrubs - Adrian G ($48), Adam Jones ($31), M. Young ($29) - with late buys of the Birtha Scott and Commander Cody Ross for my middle class, and then 6 $1 players - 2 catchers (B Pena, Jaso), Hanahan, Kila, Punto, and Yuni B.  After the draft, I picked up FAs to replace Farnsworth and Baker (Hammel, Luis Perez) who had good first weeks to date.

I don't mind going light on SPs because  the relievers can help on WHIP and ERA.  I think it is better than a mediocre, more expensive 4thand 5th starters.

Biggest disappointment was that I wanted to replace Baker with Milone, but one other guy was on to Milone and picked him up for $1.  I think in a 4x4 league that is a steal for a low whip guy who pitches in Oakland.

We do a farm draft, and on my 3d pick (2d to last of the draft) I snagged Derrek Norris for sentimental reasons. I'm not sure he'll ever be worth $10 (farm salary when active in the majors), but with Suzuki's contract getting expensive, he might have an unblocked path to the majors.
