Good god ... I thought last night's ump was horrendous - is this guy nuts? Utley was the *)(*#@  who   LEANED into the pitch last night

He does it all the time. He is one of the leaders of being HBP in the league and he glared at Lannan on his way to 1st. Don't forget there were some very close plays at 1st last night that didn't go our way and this is the same umpire from 1st base from last night calling the plate today.

Got tossed for hitting Utley and Howard on successive pitches.

How awful for Lannan - Did he get a warning after he hit Utley? Did both teams get a warning? Did the bench??

HIt Utley then he hit Howard and he was gone.

An overreaction by the homeplate umpire, assuming that a first-time starter is throwing at batters in a 3-2 game.  Of course, we've gotten this treatment from the umpires for this entire series.  >:(

Tossing Manny should buy Lannan another start, IMHO.
(Image removed from quote.)

I think there's a chance Lannan stays in the rotation, unless he gets hit awfully hard in future outings.

Did it look like it was on purpose?  Were they blows, or did they nick them.

No warning for anyone. Not for Lannan and not for the benches after the incident so I guess it's open season  ;)

Yeah wpa, Lannan hit Utley on an 0-2 pitch and then hit Howard on the very next pitch but considering there was one out in the 5th and we were down 1 there was no way he was doing it intentionally. The moron umpire tossed him immediately and then after having a talk with Manny he tossed Acta while Acta was standing on the mound.

I don't think Lannan even threw the ball that hard against either batter.  Since he's left-handed, it comes in at an angle from the left and that's where the lefty batter was.  After the 2nd HBP Lannan kind of held his left arm out and dropped it, to indicate to the batter and the ump that it was NOT intentional.  The TV guys were all over the ump for over-reacting.  Lannan has 40 family members in the stands, who only found out last night he'd be making his MLB debut here, since he was expected to start in NY Saturday.  Manny kept his cool but must have said something on the mound after he'd talked to the ump that pissed the ump off, ejecting him.   Manny NEVER blew up; he maintains his rep as a manager who keeps his cool.

The one to Utley was on an 0-2 pitch inside. Utley dives into the plate and it hit his hand. The one on Howard hit him on the arm. Given the circumstances I don't see it as being intentional. The umpire may have interpreted it that way because Howard had taken him deep in his last at bat, I doubt that was the case and hope it wasn't because I disagree with throwing at someone because they took you deep. I think that's a nag move but as I said, I don't believe it was intentional at all.

That should've been a run. We lack team speed.

Its our catcher. Either way, I'm starting to like Nook better than Langerhans. Didn't think that would happen.

Adam Eaton should have been knocked out of this game at least two innings ago.

He's terrible!

hold everything - we have a rally - a chance to score a run since the first inning.

Uggh...I guess we're holding out until the ninth to score.

Whoops, I thought it was inning over; it's a pitching change.

I'm still torn ... logan is getting more hits but Langerhans has deposited the ball on the other side of the fence a few times.
