I'm surprised no one's commented today, but it looks like things *may be* coming together to give us a chance at a decent snowstorm.

Which is why I'm not really concerned,  everything will be melted by Friday,  estimated high of 44 on Thursday,  53 on Friday

it looks like the biggest impact of the storm, as far potentially serious damage, is along the DE/NJ coast.  They could get 4-6' of storm surge.

new NAM shows over 20" of snow for part of central VA, culpepper is ground-zero.

Did you see the note?

9:56 p.m. update: Below is the NAM’s simulated snow depth as the storm ends. Talk about a tricky forecast locally if it was right! (note: these maps are really more for fun than serious totals).

yeah, predicting actual snow totals in specific locations is difficult with this storm, but there's potential for a broad area of central VA to see 12" and more.

btw, this storm once again demonstrates the accuracy of the Euro, like Sandy, the Euro had this one nailed more than a week out.

Pretty bold statement.  Not a flake has fallen and you call it a successful forecast.    ;)

If the snow fall was trimmed by 10%, I'd be okay with that.

Snowquestration is coming

So tempting to recycle a joke here about the projected snow totals for this area.

fair enough, but all the models have come in line with the Euro, versus the other way around.  Even a few days ago the GFS still had nothing.

CWG is out with their latest:

latest Euro ensemble puts over 2" of liquid over most of northern virginia, roughly 1" = 10" of snow, but keep in mind the storm will start out as rain for most folks.

Loaded wood into the rack on the porch and dragged the genset out of the shed.

I just spent and hour and a half guaranteeing that we won't see snow.

I'll gas up my cars and load up on water - that should seal it.  Then again,  my wife has a conference in crystal city on Thursday and if she can't attend we're out 2k that her company may not reimburse,  so that almost guarantees snow

These snow projection maps are missing the green patch covering DC and immediate area.  It could snow a foot on all sides of us, but still be 35F and raining here.  Book it.
