The guy to the back-left of Smithian in that grey shirt looks like he's checking out the results of having just picked his nose and then going back for more.   :lmao:

Gotta agree with FP, Gio has shown three major league pitches today in the fastball, changeup, and curveball.

The great thing about this is the obviously agitated Cubs fans on either side of Smithian.  :lmao:  I freaking hate the Cubs.

We're going to make this famous.
Smithian can come to Nationals Park and charge fans $5 apiece for his autograph.
$10 to pose with someone, doing the finger guns.  If it really takes off, the Nationals can fly him in, just like Miss Iowa.

John Popper just played 'God Bless America' on the harmonica. I don't think it's something I'll ever be able to unhear.

I wish they would let him go another inning. That's too bad. He threw 116 pitches last opening day.

why are they taking gio out?  he's under 100 pitches and would be going up against the bottom of the order.

Nooooo, why'd they take Gio out? :(

I'm greedy for Complete Game and Shutout for my fantasy stats!

Looking at the pitch f/x data for Gio today, here are some notes:

Number of pitches (amount for swinging strikes)

Fastball:  60 (7)
Curveball: 14 (3)
Change: 9 (1)

The fastball was reaching the plate in .40 seconds.  Out of all of his pitches, he had the easiest time getting his change in the strikezone at 66.6%.  He didn't exceed 17 pitches thrown in any single inning.  Outstanding home debut by him
