This series sucked offensively speaking?  Beg to differ...it sucked DEFENSIVELY speaking, but we nearly won game #1 (blown defensively), won game #2, and had a respectable 4-2 despite atrocious starting pitching in game #3.  Nothing terribly wrong with the offense here, for a non-contending team at any rate.  And our summer re-signings certainly spiced up the end of the evening tonight (for those few Nats fans in attendance).

Hanrahan gave up only 2 runs on a homerun and otherwise had a few scattered hits in 5 innings - that's not exactly atrocious for a guy's 4th start ... he did have a high pitch count which I attribute to the strike zone being all over the place - the umpire was very inconsistent - I think it adversely affected both pitchers because hamels certainly had a rough time too -

Hamels threw 7 shutout innings on 102 pitches.  I don't think the umpire bothered him one bit.

No except for the temper tantrums and the carrying on on the mound and the very high pitch count after 7 innings and the unusual amount of walks, etc., etc, - other than those several things - yeah ... no problems with the  ump at all ... please give me a break - it wasn't hamels pitching that was the reason the Nats were shut out - they had runners in scoring position almost every inning - it was the Nats inability to take advantage of opportunities.

10 runs so far during the first 4 games of the homestand.. for an average of a potent 2.50 runs per game  :-[

The Phillies scored more runs tonight (11) than we have scored during this entire week (10).

and yet another horrid performance by the offense tonight.. Perez was terrible and the offense bailed him out all night.  Not one person could come up with a big hit.  Felipe Lopez has to be the most unclutch player in the bigs.

Rileyn's thread reminded me of this one.  Our entire lineup is full of Felipe Lopezes.  No one can get a big timely hit, not one.

Worst offense ever. That's being nice too. There are just no words to describe how collectively pathetic we are offensively.

bump. We get 7 shut-out innings from our #5 pitcher against an offensive juggernaut and still lose because our gutless hitters can't even scratch out 1 freaking run. I have NEVER seen an offense as bad as this one. It's not just 1 or 2 guys struggling, it's the entire freaking team.  I don't care if Lenny is the culprit or not, his ass has to go.

Excluding the 10-run anomaly on Thursday Night we have scored a combined 3 runs in the last 6 games. Meanwhile, Bowden and Co. are jacking off to their recent draft and paying no attention at all to the ML team.

...seven shut-out innings by Hill and we couldn't get him ONE FREAKING RUN...then came the eighth, Ayala The Arsonist and disaster...as gut-wrenching a loss as I've witnessed in 45 years of following baseball.

yes but they just aren't that good offensively. i don't care what the numbers say.

Ray Knight agrees. way too many all or nothing hitters in this lineup. we strike out too frequently and overall we are way to streaky of an offense. there is no consistency.

Brewers fresh off a sweep at the hands of the Bucs.  The cure for what ails ya?  The Washington Nationals.  Back to being chumps again.  3-7 in last ten.   The improved Nats were fun while it lasted.

We just against good teams. We did well in our easiest stretch of schedule. Now we are back to playing contenders.

True that. More than any other nats team we've seen. I do kind of agree with SF that we have all or nothing kind of hitters. We either do amazing things or nothing.
