Any of you ever have German rauchbier (smoked beer).  It tastes like bacon flavored beer.

Good for cooking too.

I really didn't enjoy the taste of rauchbier

Liquor stores don't sell beer?  Next you'll tell me they are closed on Sunday.

...and on top of that, our neighbourhood Giant Food does not sell one single authentic German beer (all they have is US-brewed Becks - and they sell it in single cans, no bargain when one can go to Harris Teeter and get a four-pack for $4.99).

I'm pretty sure I saw some at the Total Beverage in Springfield this afternoon. I was looking for something else so I didn't really pay attention, but I'm pretty sure I saw Fin du Monde on the singles side of the beer aisle.

Also saw Port City made another run of Derecho Common, the steam-style beer they brewed by accident when the derecho knocked out power last summer. I guess they've decided to make it a yearly seasonal thing. I may swing by the brewery tomorrow to see if I can try it or get a growler fill.

Picked up a bottle of Stone Götterdämmerung IPA. I suppose I could go back through the thread looking for comments, but I don't want to go to the trouble. Has anyone tried this stuff?

I had it on tap at ChurchKey back in August.  Very nice, as most Stone products are.  Strong and hoppy, also as most Stone products are.  The name ("Twilight of the Gods") may be a bit overstated (as most Stone products are), but its a very good beer.

Virginia is only slowly recovering from having been a dry state full of people speaking in tongues & handling rattlesnakes not all that long ago.

It isn't?

Bitters

(Image removed from quote.)

Unless it's something different.  I have a bottle of that ^

It is something different.

Old Chelsea would know - go into a pub and order a "pint o' bitter" and they draw you the local pale ale, cool room temp.

That's like $5 for a 16oz glass

But a 16 ounce glass does not have the same emotional impact as a 3 pound glass vessel with accordian music in the background

That's like $5 for a 16oz glass
