Gardner takes a walk, though - that's the big thing hold Perez back.  Unless he learns to stop hacking, Perez will have a hard time reaching Juan Pierre .340ish OBP levels, let alone Gardner's .350+.

finished .283 / .319 / .321  45 SBs in 60 tries.

Ended the season with .464 / .516 / .464 and 9 SBs in his last 10 games (not including playoffs).

I expect he'll start next year in Harrisburg, he could be our CF in 2013/14.

I wouldn't write Perez off, because he is still young, but I don't see him as a starter in Washington. He has absolutely no power. He's got to get on base to make a difference. He really needs to get more selective at the plate and take more pitches to become a big league starter.

I guess you can make the argument that our offense should be really good(if Morse, Zim, Rendon, and Harper are all here and playing to their capabilities) that we an afford a defensive minded CF, but I don't think we'll need to concede something in such a big way.

I think Werth/Harper man the CF position for the next couple years, until Goodwin or Michael Taylor can take the position. Taylor's got to get on base at a higher clip as well, but he at least brings some pop, but also did considerably better in the second half than the first(.266obp in the first half, .351 second).

The comparison I saw one scout make was to Juan Pierre. If eury can put up Pierre-like numbers, he's got a shot at the majors as a leadoff hitter.

A poor man's Pierre is more apt.

Pierre's career big league numbers are better in average and on base percentage than Perez's minor league numbers. Pierre's minor league numbers were considerably better than Perez's as well.

.290/.340(Pierre career, rounded down) in the majors is one thing. .280/.320(Eury this year) in the minors is a completely different thing.

Like I said, he's young. I won't say he won't improve. I'm just not expecting it.

Still struggling at AA, overall is just .211 / .241, but .163 / .209 over his last 10.

Never been a fan of guys that can't get on base outside of getting hits.

he's turned his season around, current line is .261 / .294, but .341 / .395 in his last 10 (with 6 steals).

I wonder if he'll get a trip to Syracuse before long, he certainly showed he could hit in spring training.

Nah. Perez isn't a major league hitter in my opinon. Never been impressed with him when I've seen him play.

E Perez now hitting .289 with Harrisburg. About 20 SB's, but a lot of K's...maybe 40.

Perez went 4/6 with 2 Doubles, 2 Singles, 2 Runs, 1 RBI today in Syracuse. Batting .423 since promotion to AAA.

I think he'll get a call-up when rosters expand. He was hitting like that in the beginning of the season at AA then settled down once the league got used to him. Really wish he'd learn how to take a walk.

At best, he'll be a really good pinch runner

Or a defensive replacement. Which might be useful with Morse in LF ...

It's good to see he's had a solid year so far and has worked his way back into the picture as a major leaguer.

Agreed with both of you. A Guzman for the OF... with useable speed and solid defense.

Might even carve out a career as a second division starter carried by his defense/speed.

Guzman comparison? Isn't that a damning insult coming from you!?
