Our family traditional New Year's Day get together dinner:  Hog Maw.  Delicious and fatty, just the thing for a hangover

i took the kids out for their first "cook at your table" Korean experience tonight.  They wouldn't eat the side dishes but loved the Bulgogi.  Anyway, at the end of the meal they served a cold cup of Korean cinnamon tea which I found out is called "Soo Jung Gwa" and was one of the best things I've ever tasted.

I found a recipe on-line, now if I can only find persimmons:

10 cinnamon sticks
5-6 pieces ginger
10 cups water
2 cups sugar
10 dried persimmons
1/4 cup pine nuts
In a big pot, add water, cinnamon sticks and ginger, let boil for about an hour or two.
Add sugar (depends on a taste, add more or less). Let cool. Put in a refrigerator.
Serve with a persimmon inside and some pine nuts on top.

Potatoes, sausage, and cabbage, stuffed in a pig's stomach (traditionally, that's the "maw") and baked into delicious goodness.  Of course, ours could be called "Plastic bag maw" instead since we don't actually use the stomach but those reynolds oven bags instead.

Dinner has three cups of peeled garlic cloves in it.  No risk of 'Twilighting' here:

Everything can be improved by the addition of bacon.  I'd eat bacon on a banana split.

Damn, you had me till the pound of cheese part.  Cheese is one of the most overrated foods on the planet, when the main objective is more, more, more of it.  Extra cheese on a pizza?    :hang:

Maybe cut the cheese  :P by substituting 3/4 lb of ground buffalo meat.

Well, after all, it wasn't human cheese.  Though I gather that there is a place in NYC that does have a human cheese pizza.

Perish the thought, this is only the finest uptown cheese made from fresh human milk.  Other so-called cheeses are readily available in the Bowery.

Rick Bayless's "one plate at at time" will return for season 8, they film in baja later this year!  His book of the same name is a really good guide to Mexican cuisine.
