I am almost finished with the first season of The Wire. Really quality show
How do the following seasons compare to season 1? better? worse?
Season 2 is one of my favorites. It is about the dock workers on the Baltimore harbor. They are all different in themes each season, the first one focuses on the street gangs mostly, the second one on the dock workers, the third one on politics, the fourth on the schools, and the fifth on the newspaper. The primary cast stays involved in the story line throughout the series. All the seasons are quality. What is so great about the show is how it builds on itself as the series progresses and the viewer is rewarded with cameo appearances by former characters and a very quality, all encompassing sociological look at the problems surrounding Baltimore.
As a side note, it is quite accurate in its portrayal of various law enforcement strategies and criminal justice theory. I studied quite a bit of these theories/methods in college and was quite surprised at how well they were able to present them. The show itself has a huge amount of realism. The two writers for the show were a former Baltimore Policeman and former Baltimore Sun Writer turned teacher. Also, a lot of the actors they use are people without any previous acting experience that were simply taken off the street. I saw some article a few weeks ago about how a Harvard professor is trying to design a class around the show to help teach a sociology (?) class.
