That is a recipe for failure if I have ever seen one.  I'm going to optimistically predict that Stammen has a good outing but gets no run support.  Hopefully Dunn or Hammer can drive a few in with the long ball.

The Reverse Jinx always works. Someone has to take a gameday thread with Craig Stammen, so why not someone who actually has confidence in him.

I'd have taken it if I didn't already have a losing record.  Don't want to get Marquis'd like PA :icon_mrgreen:

The day Marquis comes back from the DL might be the first time we have no game thread. Who is going to want to take that one? Maybe if we have little confidence, it's a reverse jinx and Marquis wins.

Btw (totally random here), I was looking at some old Senators history and I noticed something that seemed odd.

For game 7 of the 1925 World Series (that the Senators lost :( ), Walter Johnson pitched all eight innings against the Pirates.  I know that was common in those days, but he gave up 9 runs (!!!), 3 of which occurred in the 8th.  Very puzzling that he was never pulled.  If he gets a quick hook in the 8th, the Senators might win that game 7-6.

Did the Senators have a bunch of Joel Hanrahan clones in their bullpen or something?

I can just imagine sportsfan watching that game:

WTF!?!!!???  Bucky Harris is a freaking moron.  Fire his ass for this crap!! :whip:

 [sportsfan] WALTER JOHNSON IS TO OLD FOR ME. WHY DID THEY LEAVE HIM IN. THIS TEAM IS LOSERS. [/sportsfan]

:D :D :D

Knorr, there is a partial explanation (and some interesting history) here - http://mopupduty.com/index.php/roger-peckinpaugh-goat-of-the-1925-series/

[/philwood]

Quote
Pittsburgh bounced back with two wins to send the game into a thrilling seventh game. The Sens led for most of the game but an error by Peckinpaugh in the bottom of the 8th opened the doors for 2 more Pirate runs as they took the lead 9-7. They shut down the Sens in the top of the 9th to win the series.

That is interesting.  I had forgotten about the pebble curse.

One slight error there, though.  Peckinpaugh's fielding couldn't have opened the floodgates as the writer suggests.  Walter Johnson had given up consecutive doubles with two outs when Peckinpaugh screwed up.

Remember how we all kept asking, "What did we do to deserve this!?!?!?" during our awful start last year?  I wonder if last year was the Pebble Curse reminding us it's alive and well. :hang:

maxwell is looking better these days ...

desmond needs to take this opportunity in the 2-hole and run with it.  i would love to see him stay there.

i think we score 3 runs off him and win today 4-3.

I can't help but wonder if Nyjer Morgan is an intelligent guy. According to Baseball-reference.com, he has probably 900K. After adding everything else, he probably made 1 Million. Say he has about 600-700K after taxes. He shouldn't be spending that kind of money on cars and customized shoes.

They said Plush on them, so they were customized. They showed customized cleats. If I had to bet, he has customized shoes also.
