I concur. Ironically, a mate said the same thing; hyping it up a lot, so on his recommendation I gave it a go and thought it was brilliant. When I texted said buddy turned out he never saw the film, at all, asking me how was it and what the twist ending was.

Saw "Hacksaw Ridge" today. Other than the couple behind us who bullcrapted through the movie, it was very moving. I see one of August Wilson's plays is coming out in movie format with Denzel Washington .... "Fences". It's on my to see list.

That's what I expected going in but I thought it was more more nuanced. Supposedly inspired by Casablanca, but as I've never seen Casablanca I can't comment on that.
