Dead on. It looked like neither player said a thing. Bernie doesn't have time to look to see if Ankiel is in position to catch it, Ankiel should have been screaming.

what happened when bernadina/werth let the fly ball drop in between them when it was the CF's ball.  oh you kept blaming werth.  and interesting now you blame ankiel.

but i will give you credit you did call out bernie at least once tonight.

2 HRs.  Three runs in the 9th.  Nats owned the astros in a laugh-er.

He hasn't gotten to face the Nats.

Just kidding. I think the Nats have done well against him.

I was wrong 3-0 with a 1.14 ERA.

It's on both of them.  Ankiel has to call it, and Bernadina should be aware of where his CF is.  Since Ankiel's responsibility was easier (yelling "Mine" vs. tracking the ball and trying to watch for another player at the same time), I'd give him a bit more of the blame.

Happ was also having a good year last year.  I'm assuming most of that came as a Philly.  I do remember one start after the trade.

As we should.  The Astros have the worst record in baseball. If the Nationals FAIL to sweep, it would be an EPIC FAILURE.

Marquis had a nice game against a bad team.  So it means very little.

bob/FP were blaming it on bernadina.  it looked like ankiel had it, bernadina just stepped in.

Aren't corner outfielders taught to go get the ball until the CF calls them off?  Bernie looked a little reckless, there, but I think this one falls on Ankiel for not taking charge, though he may not have seen the bolt of lightning that was Bernie come shooting out of LF, so there's that, too.

I'm just glad no one got crushed.  I was seeing Kearns-Johnson 2.0 in slo-mo as that unfolded.

Slept through it. Got on WNFF. Thought, "Crap, did we win?" "Now I'm scared to click" "Oh wait there aren't any new threads in the Clubhouse. That means we won"

Wow.  Talk about a crazy division:

This is why realignment has to happen. Why the hell should we play the Phillies and Braves so much while the Pirates get to feast on the Astros?

I'm sure the Braves and Phillies feel the same way beating on the Nats and Mets.  By the way, what happened to the Marlins magic number?  Starting to look like the Filthy Fish are about to take the lead in the three way tie for third.  :P

Comparative dates on which the Nats notched their 48th win, each season:

2005 - 1st July (79th match of season)
2011 - 18th July (96th match)
2006 - 1st August (107th match)
2007 - 2nd August (108th match)
2010 - 4th August (108th match)
2008 - 27th August (133rd match)
2009 - 10th September (140th match)

---

Further interesting bit: despite their MLB-worst record, the disAstros seem to continue to draw well - announced attendance last night was 28,975 - was there a promo on last night? (Free replica Enron stock certificate to first 20,000 in the house?)

Not a bad showing by their rookie pitcher (second-youngest player currently in the majors, per Slowes and Jageler) last night either.

Possibly anticipation of their new home ground to open next year, replacing the National League's last remaining 'multi-purpose facility' (translation: football ground more or less adaptable for baseball; AL still has two remaining in Oakland and Toronto).

Exactly.  With that rationale, MLB would have to realign every year.
