Wasn't aware they were offering those anymore.

[former full STH 2001-11]

Is the new for this season? I remember they used to offer those, but didn't they stop offering them the past two seasons? I might have to get one.

Ive had mine for a couple of years now.  They always wait to see if they can sell full season.  Then after the schedule comes out.,,they offer 10 and 5 game plans

...and speak of the devil, barely had I made the previous post but I get in my E-mail (through a mailing list of Mystics/Wizards STH - I still hold these) some advance-look announcements of 5- and 10-game Caps packages which will go on sale this coming Wednesday (18th).

Some of them don't look too bad - two of the packages in fact contain a Hurricanes visit that falls on my birthday - and aren't too ghastly pricey...but I'm just not sure I want to commit to anything at the Caps right now due to the lock-out threat.

The Carolina Staalicanes might actually be a good ticket this season after being essentially a throwaway for a few years.

Caps agree to terms with Mike Green, 3 years/$18.25 million. Not sure I'm so happy about that contract. That's a lot of money for a guy who hasn't even played half the games the last couple of years, and the ones he did play hardly deserved that kind of contract.

are they really insane enough to force another work stoppage- the first one drove hockey off the map. Things like the winter classic are helping to bring it back, but good luck with another lost season

They made $3.3 Billion last year. Like football, there is too much money to be gained for a stoppage to happen.

Semin to the Hurricanes, 1 year/$7 million. Finally.

Also, please sign Shane Doan.

We're not going to, as much as I'd like to. He'd be perfect to replace Semin, but we're done signing guys it seems.

OK, well we have a lock on 3rd in the SE...well, maybe 4th if Winnipeg manages to feed off their home crowd like they did last year.   :?

Eh, the division is wide open. We're just as talented as any team in the East. Florida won't win the division again unless they can get their 15 shootout wins again.

Going into the season, I think we are probably the second best team right now in the SE. Caps didn't do anything to make themselves better. Tampa will be the team to beat, with Florida slipping a little after winning the SE division on shootout losses last year. It looks like the Caps want to see how things shake out with what they have, then try to make some noise at the trade deadline. Hope it works out.

We're either the best or second best team in the Southeast. Second if the Caps underachieve and Tampa returns to what was expected of them last year, 1st in any other situation. The Caps are still a good team. Oates can only help, Ribeiro will be a boost. Nobody else has improved significantly either. And Florida isn't good, they had more losses than wins despite their ridiculous amounts of shootout wins.

So what's the outlook for the season? 50/50 or worse?

I think there will be a season, but it will start late because Gary Bettman and the big-market owners (one of which is the wonderful and amazing Ted Leonsis) are short-sighted and greedy and don't realize that another lockout is death to this sport ever becoming nationally relevant again.

What's the main "issue" (money)?    Is it a share the wealth thing?

the main issue is money, but i'm not sure if it is a share the wealth thing.  last lockout the owners won big time with a 24% salary roll back and hard salary cap.  i guess as years have gone by and revenues and salaries have increased together (salaries being a function of revenue), the owners want to keep more of the money for themselves. maybe a few teams arent profitable, but it has to be less than last time.

i really think the owners are just being greedy. salaries were tied to revenue. and i cant imagine any of the other costs have increased disproportionately to have driven the owners into unprofitability

wtf though. lost have a season in 1995, lost a full season in 2004-05. are you seriously going to lose games again? you bent the players over a barrel last time and showed who was boss and maybe you had justification for it. i cant see how you can ask for more from them other than "we didnt expect to make this much revenue and share it with you. so uh give some back, even though both of us are making more than expected"

I can't decide whether to use my Caps jerseys as rags when I repack the hubs on my bikes or donate them to the animal shelter for bedding

Ovechkin with an assist on a power-play goal with about five minutes left in the third period tonight. Dynamo Moscow won 7–2.
