Lannan pitched six innings and gave up four runs on 12 hits against the
Mets. He had serious problems with left-handed hitters and the bottom of
the order. The eighth and ninth spots in the order went 4-for-5 and
left-handed hitters went 5-for-9. Lannan's biggest problem was a former
member of the Nationals, Ryan Church, who had four RBIs, including a solo
home run.

The Orioles shuffled their rotation to keep Guthrie on turn, a maneuver
made necessary by three days off during a seven-day span. Baltimore
elected to skip Steve Trachsel, who will likely slot back into the staff in
the middle of next week. Guthrie overcame two errors and a three-run
first inning in his last start to work deep into the game and lead Baltimore
to a victory.

I really think we can win this game... If we can get 6 innings and 2 runs out of Lannan, and the Pen gives up like a run, I think this is the game where we can get like 6 runs and not get swept.

Huh? We could hardly score off the O's two worst starters Olson and Burres. We get to face their dominant ace today.

We usually play well on Sunday though, especially when Manny starts a bunch of bench players.

A big reason we couldn't score was our offense, not their pitching... What I meant is that our batting might break through today.

Hopefully, but even if we were hitting the ball well you'd figure the most runs you'd score off Guthrie would be 2 or 3.

Hopefully with the uber-weird powers of Zombie Jesus behind us, we shall prevail.

Hey well his ERA isn't that good, I mean true he is in the AL East but we can definitely get 4 runs this game at least.

SMH. Flores got thrown out yesterday for asking the umpire where the pitch was.

Quote
Catcher Jesus Flores has been getting the job done for the Nationals. He is hitting .367 with one home run and seven RBIs. By being so productive, manager Manny Acta put Flores in the sixth spot of the lineup on Saturday against the Orioles.

"He has been tremendous for us. He has had quality at-bats in almost every outing that he has had," Acta said.

Flores went 0-for-2 and ended up being ejected by home-plate umpire Tim McClelland in the sixth inning. Flores' back was turned when McClelland made his decision.

"I'm really surprised," Flores said. "I just asked, 'Where was that pitch?' He just threw me out of the game. There was nothing I could do about it. It was the third time I asked him, but I wasn't mad."

McClelland wasn't available for comment, but Acta felt the ejection was uncalled for.

"Flores is a kid who has impeccable conduct, not only with me, but the coaches, players and every one around the league," Acta said. "I don't know what happened there."

No, really, it's baseball.  Just because they won a series vs. the Mets doesn't mean that suddenly the Nats are a much better team, and should have higher standards.

But if you are good enough to take 3 of 4 against the Mets in a hostile environment you should not get swept by the Stupid Birds.  The Nats took one step forward and two steps back all in one week.

should have higher standards.

Don't worry. This team has no intention of having that. Well, not until maybe June or beyond, you know, when it's too late.

I think last night Kearns finally, FINALLY, just hit rock bottom. You could tell by the disgust on his face and in his interviews.

You just can't put a guy out there who is like that, he'd be completely worthless.

According to the Nats pre-game guys it was a late scratch too. He was in the lineup and they took him out last minute for one reason or another.

This team is so screwed up. They punish players for playing well and reward those that fail over and over.

The ejection of Flores was ridiculous. It also sucks that umpires can make decisions like this and are not required to answer questions about it. This lets them off the hook for their mistakes.

Harris said his shoulder is not 100% after the catch he made the other day.
