He had started coming out of his slump by now.

He also wasn't slumping throughout most of the second half the previous year.  But I get what JMW is getting at.  People see a lot of promise in Espinosa, and his continuing struggles are really difficult to watch.

This is not working.  Are there any healthy alternatives out there?

DE is a strike out machine.........does not even make contact usually. His saving grace early on was the number of walks he was getting, now he's just a K.
Def. start Lombo. Let Danny sit for awhile and let him know the seriousness of the situation. I don't know why coach loves him so much.

He's killing the team starting and he's not going to find his swing on the bench- send him down, maybe even to aa so he can get his confidence back

I wonder if there's a metric or combination of metrics they're using to determine when they've seen enough to send him down and I wonder what it is?  It's not BA or OBP or OPS or slugging or Ks or WAR or wOBA.

Maybe there's no quantifiable reason for him being here which means he might never be sent down?  If they're going with the non-quantifiable, ie going with their gut, they can always choose to do nothing.    :|

The only thing keeping me from screaming for Espinosa to be permanently benched, is that Mikey Morse started just as horribly last season.

and Morse never looked this lost at the plate.

I really like Espinosa and his potential but he has been terrible so far this year. Looks completely lost at the plate.

FYI, Espinosa's 37Ks are second only to Adam Dunn's 46.

and adam dunn actually has the ability to hit for pop and drive in runs and get on base.

espinosa, none of the above.

I just hope he gets back to his last year form... I remember him hitting big hrs, and the walkoff of course. Hell be okay im predicting hell have at least one successful AB tonight

boom.  that's his problem.  he hit some big home runs so he continues to swing for the fences.  until he realizes he's a little man and starts trying to hit for average he'll just continue to fail.  does he shorten his swing with 2 strikes?  never.  he needs to change his whole approach to hitting and he should be doing it at the AA level.

Pretty much how I feel. He needs at bats everyday but its a waste here. He needs to be sent to AAA until he starts heating up again. Davey also needs to move him down in the lineup at least. Not sure what his thinking is.

In the lineup tomorrow :hang:

Well, this is a positive sign, at least:

Manager Davey Johnson said on "Nats Xtra" postgame that he is concerned about Danny Espinosa's struggles at the plate after Tuesday's 5-4 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates. He confirmed, however, that Espinosa will be in his lineup Wednesday.

Until Espinosa fixes his swing he is useless to us at the major league level. He needs to  just go down to AAA and work on it. I'd also say he should forget about the whole switch hitting thing while he is down there and just focus on becoming a RH hitter because there is a loop in his swing LH that he just can't seem to fix.

I don't see how they can continue trotting him out there every day.  He's not going to fix himself at the Major League level.  It's just going to get worse for him.
