interesting non-Nats related note from NFA:

seriously...4th rounder asking for top 10-15 money?

I might do the same thing if I were a prep kid, especially if I thought going to college was something I wanted to do.  If they gave me the money I asked for then I'd go play pro ball, great! Otherwise, I've got a pretty good deal waiting for me on a college campus.  If I'm as good as I think I am and barring some sort of catastrophic injury, the money will still be there in 3-4 years.

The Marlins signed Skipworth to a $2.3M bonus.

This is really a double risk for the player.  If he's healthy now, injury risk is a downside risk.  Also, if his performance declines or does not improve at the expected rate, his position would drop and thus his expected $.   Of course players mostly are confident in their abilities, but they are hardly unbiased observers.

What in the freak is going on? Why haven't we signed any of our top picks yet? So much for them playing some ball this season. The front office can't do anything right.

This could be the fly in the ointment.

I wish we could fire the Lerners' for saying that they will take a conservative approach and may not sign a top 10 pick!
