Did anyone see the umpire miss the call in the SF/SD game?  Ground ball hits the 1st base bag pops up and the Blue calls it foul!
speaking of plays at first

What a bullcrap call.  By the time he got to first, he was on the foul side of the line.  And, he beat the throw anyway. Horsehit.

It's the right call.

Just, they never call it on anyone other than us.

Of course not.

Does anyone know what the limits of heckling the ump are before getting ejected from the park?  I'm thinking about making a list

How is it the right call?  He was right of the line by the time the throw go there.  And the throw wasn't from the catcher, it was across the diamond from a much more severe angle, so he did not obscure the throwing lane to the pitcher at all.

is it an automatic out if you run inside of the line, or do you have to obstruct the throw?

Was he really right of the line?

Looked to me as if he was in fair territory when the ball hit him.

If not, I'll gladly take back my comment.

It's any throw. The same goes if you get hit by a batted ball while running the bases. If you're in fair territory, the ball can't touch you when it's hit into play.

rule 6.05:

Quote
(k) In running the last half of the distance from home base to first base, while the ball is being fielded to first base, he runs outside (to the right of) the three-foot line, or inside (to the left of) the foul line, and in the umpire’s judgment in so doing interferes with the fielder taking the throw at first base, in which case the ball is dead; except that he may run outside (to the right of) the threefoot line or inside (to the left of) the foul line to avoid a fielder attempting to field a batted ball;

I couldn't even tell if it was the ball or Giambi's arm, but it definitely looked like he was on the correct side when the ball reached Giambi.

His last step with his right foot (next step was on the bag) was clearly right of the line, before the ball arrived.

Nothing against country fans but I hate when people use it as there walk up music.

I wouldn't want him.

This team had good chemistry.  Z would hurt that.
