Same here...and the further problem is that if this project falls through it's pretty much all up with DC United in this area - Baltimore (or Minneapolis or Atlanta or wherever) here they come.

Can anywhere else come up with the money for this? DC has been running nine figure surpluses for the past few years. Lots of places can make promises but when it comes time to vote, crap goes down hill fast.

On another note, can anybody who has been to rfk lately feel confident concrete won't fall in their head at the foo fighters concert in July

just listened to it, I've never seen a host and both guests agree on something that is still controversial

Is there any organized opposition to this? Catania was as vocal as you could be against nats park. He didn't make the soccer stadium part of his mayoral platform as far as I could tell.

Another thing. There is nothing at Buzzards point. It's weeds and parking lots. Nats park displaced some smallish businesses. I don't think there is a victim of eminent domain down there.

I don't know about organized, but, at least as of January, 60% of dc residents opposed it http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/dc-politics/six-in-10-oppose-grays-plan-for-dc-united-stadium/2014/01/26/3ef8bc66-84fa-11e3-bbe5-6a2a3141e3a9_story.html

If they are trading a building for the land, that means they can sell the building. If they're willing to sell the building, is a soccer stadium the best use of the proceeds?

No, the best use for the proceeds is the new municipal center they are going to build to replace the Reeves Center.

It was sickening, but the unions are for it so WAMU is for it.

No, the team is bluffing. Let them run off to Baltimore or some other crap hole, DC will get the next expansion team and they know it, no chance they're leaving this market.

DCU stadium discussion on Kojo. Powerboater trolled in

I'd have loved to see Hunt's face when she read my user name.

Terrible interview though, completely unprepared, no better than an infomercial. I just went off in the comment section under the transcript.

:lmao:

Quote
Michael J. Garcia, a former U.S. Attorney, spent 18 months looking into allegations that many of the nine bids seeking the 2018 and 2022 World Cups showered gifts and money on FIFA executives, interviewing more than 75 witnesses—and gathering information on many more who refused to cooperate.

A few months ago Garcia produced a 430-page report, which FIFA's top judge immediately declared would never be made public. That judge, Hans-Joachim Eckert, instead put together his own 42-page summary of Garcia's findings, which can be found below. It was Eckert's summary that was released today. Garcia says that's insufficient and flat-out wrong.

"Today's decision by the Chairman of the Adjudicatory Chamber contains numerous materially incomplete and erroneous representations of the facts and conclusions detailed in the Investigatory Chamber's report," said Garcia.

Sepp Blatter is like a renaissance pope - more power than any kings, and hands in the till of every government.  He probably eats like one too, pickled parrot tongues imported from Byzantium eaten off of gold plates that are then thrown into the Tiber.

ACN qualifier Cote d'Ivoire vs Sierra Leone on BeIn Sports right now.  Sierra Leone has to play their "home" match in Abidjan because of the ebola outbreak at home.

Ivoirians are stacked: Yaya Toure, Didier Drogba, Gervinho (to name but a few).

My Hungarians could really use a win today against the Fins. They've got to get some points back after they blew it to Northern Ireland at home in September.

Iceland/Czech on Sunday should be good. Iceland is the real deal this year...not bad for a country with 1/3 the population of Montgomery County.

There are probably more people rooting for Eibar right now than the sum total to have ever lived in Spain in the entire history of the Iberian peninsula going back to cave painters in animal skins.  This is like a small town fire department softball team playing the SF Giants.

Terps won the B1G last week, beating Michigan State and Indiana in the semi and final, respectively.

Arsenal's backline got run through today like...(can't think of any analogies that don't involve pictures stars in frat houses). Disgusting.
Stoke had scored like twice in the last month and then was up by 3 (and probably should have been 4) by the half.  :spaz:

Koscielny wasn't healthy enough to play today? He seems to be as important to Arsenal's defense as Kompany is to City's.
