Going to the AFL.  A link to his Fangraphs page:
http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=sa509283&position=P

To date at AA, he's 4-1, 12 saves, 33.2 IP in 30 appearances, with 10+ K/9, 1.60 ERA, 2.28 FIP. Very high LOB%, very low HR rate.

Is he going to the AFL with the idea to have him in the bullpen next year?

Im thinking it's to see exactly what we have in him. He had a solid year at AA in 2010, then repeated it again this year, despite being 27 years old. He had a tremendous season in AA this year, but of course that age ... So Im sure it's to test him and just see how good he may actually be.

It could prepare him to push for a spot, but I think he moves up to Syracuse next year and will be ready when someone goes down with an injury or is ineffective.

Judging by all the chances that Maya, one of their other 'big international signings,' received, Martin will probably get a long look in spring training for an MLB job.

I didn't say he wasn't.  I just think that he'll have plenty of chances to succeed, even if success doesn't come all that quickly.

I will say that, looking at his numbers last year, he definitely looks promising.  I like that Rizzo has created a kind of pipeline of relievers where, as one goes down or is traded, there are players in the minors who can step up and take that spot.  There are a few guys in their mid 20's in the minors like this.

Martin right now is not on the 40 man roster.  I do not think he needs to be added this offseason.  The smart way to play things with him is to use him as a depth piece and start him in AAA, unless he kicks down the door in spring training making it impossible to send him down.  He should not get added to the roster until he needs to be called up.  I see him as having a Ballyesque roster experience, going back and forth on the Syracuse to DCA/ IAD shuttle, as a useful depth piece, until he makes it impossible to send down.

Two decent middle relief appearances but otherwise has been awful at Syracuse.

Game log
http://www.fangraphs.com/statsd.aspx?playerid=sa509283&position=P&season=2012

9 appearances, 13.1 IP, 8.78 ERA, 11 Ks, 14 Hits, 9 BB  , 2 HR.

37 IP, 19 ER, 7 HR, 15 BB/39 K.

No idea why he is also still on the 40-man. De los Santos should've been kept around over this guy.
