11 Ks to 1 BB. Rizzo destroyed the momentum.

I still want to know why Davey was playing matchups down six runs in the top of the ninth.

3 shut outs in a span of two weeks.  Something isn't right.  Feels like some nights the team is just gassed.  Starting to think it may be more of a wild card hunt then division winner.

DeRosa is much worse than Nady. Why does he far a free pass?

Yup unless they go 6-0 the rest of the week which seems impossible.

Nobody, but nobody, thought we were going to be in it this year.  Not sure what you mean by Rizzo blowing anything, are you saying he should sell (or, have sold) the farm for some short-term win-now pieces?

Is there nothing in between trading everyone for Greinke and trying to upgrade catcher, add bench depth, maybe solidify the pen?

Yup, a backup catcher, infielder, and veteran reliever wouldn't have cost much but would definitely have helped

Maybe this team should just all grow SNRUB mustaches.

All more of a reason to start the SNRUB SURGE.

I really hope so.   We need Desmond back too.  He's been good at getting clutch hits and we're missing that right now.

Yeah, I'm not :panic: yet, but I am starting to get a little worried.  Tonight's game was just awful - crappy pitching, no offense (only one baserunner after the fourth inning?), and bad defense.  CLIFF LEE stealing a base against us was - in my opinion - a big fat middle finger from the Phillies.  The Nationals tonight did not look like a contender, especially playing against a team that effectively gave up all hope today by trading two starting outfielders.  I hope they rebound, and quickly.

Cliff Lee stole a base? I wasn't paying that close attention so I missed it but someone should have gotten beaned for that!

Yep, right before Rollins capped the night with his inside-the-parker.

Oh, our last five batters all struck out tonight.  Craptacular performance all around.

THIS DAY WITH THE '05 OVERACHIEVERS: Sunday 31st July 2005, the Nats snapped a 6-match losing streak with a 4-2 win at Florida, Nick Johnson icing the result with a 9th-inning homer and Livan pitching eight innings...record now 56-49...http://espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=250731128

---

Forget post-season plans. We're not going anywhere if we don't start throwing out base-stealers. The other contenders in the NL all run well and if we do still manage to get in it'll be over quickly. Those early inning steals were a disgrace (and I note that Juan Pierre is very much back on form - remember when he used to run us ragged in RFK days when he was at the Marlins - I left after the fifth inning, as is SOP for me at weeknights when we're behind five or more runs after five).

---

Attendance 30,167, just 33 off this season's average of 30,200 - might have been a bit more had it not been for the afternoon rain. Our second-highest Tuesday of the season, trailing only 3rd July vs Giants (36,985).

They've got a squishy-soft homestand this week - the largely dismantled Marlins, then the miserable Astros.

What was the score? Unless it was 8-0 at the time it doesn't matter.
