Eric Komatsu Designated for Assignment
« Topic Start: May 01, 2012, 02:51:12 PM »
The Cardinals just designated Eric Komatsu for assignment. They took him from us in the Rule V draft and it nobody claims him he gets offered back to the Nats. I assume we would take him back as we just got him from Milwaukee for Jerry Hairston Jr straight up. He should at least give us some AAA depth with Harper and Moore called up.

Soon to be removed from the MoveOn.org / Lock and Load Prospects Memorial section of the FTP Master Thread first post!

I'd be real curious as to why his time in Harrisburg was so much worse than any other time in his career.  Nice depth piece.

Was that the first time he'd ever been traded?  Maybe it messed with his head or he was trying too hard to impress?

He still has to pass through waivers.

Sorry I didn't put this in "The Farm" to begin with, newbie mistake.

Komatsu really didn't do well at Harrisburg, hopefully something about being dealt midseason and trying to impress.

The funny thing is he put up better numbers with the cards than most of our regulars

Komatsu is not very good. He doesn't hit, and when he plays CF, the space looks as big as Texas. Do we want him?

Well he got claimed off waivers by the Twins so perhaps I was wrong and they want him as a short term fix. Maybe they just figure this is a lost year and they could add him to their organizational depth next year. In any case he seems to be in high demand but he won't be playing for us anytime soon.

I think JMU or someone else had this pegged (not in a Mummy sense).  Komatsu will pop around the league, sitting on the bench of the Cards, the Twins, maybe another team or two, as a spare part who can pinch run and fill in the OF for the rest of the year for teams that do not want to mess up the development of a better prospect by promotion and sitting on the pine. This year, he is going to be the definition of a replacement player - MLB minumum talent who fills in a slot easily with minimal acquisition costs.

That is what happened to Jose Bautista his rookie year, he played for 4 teams as a Rule V guy.

That didn't take long, the Twins designated Erik Komatsu for assignment less than a month after claiming him. He gets to go through waivers again and if he clears he finally comes back to the Nats organization.

As JCA said, I can see the Red Sox picking him up.

Glad we got Komatsu back. Meyers is on the 60-day DL with NY, which sucks. If he is out for the season, does that count as a season for the Yankees and can they they re-assign him to AAA? Would be really crappy if we lose him just because he got hurt.

Rule V says that a player must be active at least 90 days during the season if they are placed on the DL and it can be split over two seasons. Thus if Meyers really is out for the year, he would need to be on the Yankees roster at least 90 days next season for them to keep him.
