I don't want him - at least not on a major league deal.

If someone else signed him, would the Mets would no longer owe him money?

Only if some other team picked him up on waivers.

Once he passes through waivers, the Mets will owe him his full contract, minus whatever the contract is he signs for with the next team.

So, lets say they owe him 20 million... and he passes through waivers, and the next team signs him for say, 300K, the Mets would now be on the hook for 19.7 million instead of the full 20.

Thanks, Linty. So, if he was good, there would be no reason to not sign him.

For 400k, there still is not reason

Who has Duncan fixed recently? He sure hasn't done much with Kyle Lohse.

Piniero?  I think if there's someone who would benefit from Duncan, Perez is exactly the guy.

I thought Lohse improved with St Louis and then got injured?  Pretty sure he helped Wainwright, Carpenter(back from 0 wins in 2007 and 08), Pinero(15 wins 2009), Ryan Franklin(38 saves) and Kyle McClellan(ERA drops 1.00 each of the last three years to 2.27).  The one thing that I will say though is the Cards get the most from scrub pitchers for a year or two better then anyone in baseball.

No one can save Ollie Perez.  Not even Crash Davis would try.

I think too many people have tried to "fix" Oliver Perez. He's never going to be a strike thrower so stop trying to turn him into Cliff Lee. Let him go out and pitch the way he did when he had some success. Stop trying to turn him into a front of the rotation starter and be happy with the fact that he's a #5 that occasionally gives you lights out stuff.

It's not the strikes that are the problem, it's the fact that in 2004 he was throwing 93. In 2010 he was throwing 88.
