I think the problem Cal, is that Ovi is no longer scoring 60 goals a season or close to that, so they consider him bad. The truth is, with the team now, we don't need him to do that. Earlier, in 06-07 we did, we needed him to score that much, but now we can count on everyone else as well.

I definitely think the scheme we are running is what's hurting the team. Most of these guys are all offense and we're expecting them to play D, etc. I mean Mike Green, yeah he's a "defensemen," but realistically he's a forward. Not saying he hasn't gotten better at D (though I still think he's not that great), his biggest plus was his goal scoring, still is.

I will always blame Bruce for not bringing us our first cup, there's no excuse why that 2009 team should not have brought it home. Dominating everyone and in the playoffs he wants to change it to more D. I would have fired his ass right then and there for that.

I agree!  Is he trying to have it both ways and changing the system again?   You cant build a team based on primarily offense and then change up the system, to defense, can you?  I mean, I'm kind of a casual fan, so I'm no expert.  Is he now trying to change it back?

I would find it very ironic if Bruce was let go after Thanksgiving.  He was so successful getting us to the playoffs when he was hired after Thanksgiving!   To be fired after Thanksgiving would be the ultimate irony.

Crosby scores 4 minutes into his return.

Ovechkin and the Caps go through the motions every night.

God damnit why can't our generational talent be as motivated as Crosby and why can't our coach be awesome like Bylsma.

But think about the whores and hanger-ons at the Russian House and all the partying they have to do to stay hot and cool.

Bylsma is a magician and Crosby is, if anything, driven.  Call him a Cindy and a homo all you want but Crosby is the king.

We've allowed THREE freaking breakaways tonight, two resulting in goals, absolutely TERRIBLE.

Agreed Marquis, Capitals fans can hate all they want on Crosby, but the kid is an all around great player, he can do whatever you want, where Ovechkin is more so one-dimensional. Really wish we could have a coach like Bylsma, but I guess that's how it goes.

Unlike the Redskins, I don't have any illwill toward the Caps.  Having said that, I don't understand how they can keep BB as the coach.  Can someone clue me in as to a real reason for this?

I would like to know the same answer. I'm thankful he got the Capitals rolling when Hanlon clearly wasn't, but we're in a standstill now and it's time for someone to take us to the next level. I know McPhee 'respects' him and all, but something has to give. I was hoping he was going to be gone after last season, but when I heard Leonsis say it was up to Mcphee, I knew he'd be here.

You'll get no argument from me. Crosby is the best player in the NHL....period. There was a time when I thought Ovechkin was just a little ahead of him, but that time has long since passed. Amazing performance by Crosby tonight. If he stays healthy...the Penguins could be tough to beat this year.

Crosby is a great player, but he is a whiny nag. He does lots of things very well consistently. Ovechkin back in the day and every now and then currently can do stuff that blows your mind and nobody else can even dream of doing.  I'd still take Ovie. Sure winning cups is fun. But if Ovie ever does it here, you will see some amazing crap along the way.

Crosby had 32G and 34A in 41 games last year. You could probably find similar production over a 41 game window in Ovie's career too. Ovie did manage to to keep up Crosby's amazing goal pace over the course of a whole season when he scored 65. Also remember that after the Habs bounced the Caps, they beat the Pens in 7 games when wonderboy managed 1 goal and 4 assists. Further when the Pens won the cup Crosby only 1 goal, 2 assists, and was -3 in the DET series while Malkin was winning the MVP

It seems like Crosby has achieved a lot. He has but he had help along the way. Lots of help.  It also seems like Crosby is trending up while Ovechkin is fading. It might be the case, but it is really only based on the last 41 games he has played. Possibly a small sample.  Also don't forget Crosby's very serious concussion. That could have long lasting ramifications and it must be accounted for if one were to pick a player going forward.

Ovie might appear bored and sluggish these days (tonight was an improvement), but I think deep down, he can still uncork his skills and take over a game like none other

I think he has that ability too Dave, but when's the last tiem we've seen it? If Crosby wasn't hurt last year he could've put up 150 legitimately. We'll see if he can be back to 100% and produce uickly.

Ovie just hasn't shown his usual gamebreaking ability in a long, long time.

...while Malkin was winning the MVP.

Malkin > Crosby.

I still can't seem to care about hockey anymore but I'm still really happy to have Crosby back in the game.  Just hope this isn't a short return.

i think he had it in the edmonton game. that is the one that stands out to me immediately. all his old moves we working. nothing to show for it though. he showed a few flashes tonight. i think it is mental more than anything. just have to hope he gets motivated at some point. i know he is getting paid a lot of money, but i can give him a small pass for not being motivated during the regular season. he has done it all and knows only the playoffs matter. i also think he has a lot of crap swirling in his head. doubts about his old style, overcompensating trying to be more of a team player, the new "system"

150 for crosby last year? you think he would have accelerated his otherworldly 130 point pace? how do you know he wasnt peaking? that was probably corsby's best 41 game span ever. I think Ovie has had a couple of nearly as impressive spans of the same length.  65 goals in 82 games for Ovie, there has to be 41 games in there where he was on a 70-75 goal pace and a good amount of assists

Does Semin get scratched again just to reinforce the point that we are pissed at him? In case he was thinking "whatver, they are just going to bench me for one game". Plant the seed that his isnt just getting the courtesy bench. This actually is performance-related

Losing Fedorov and Kozlov to the KHL was unfortunate on so many levels.

I'd like to point out that the Caps' two most recent wins came with Semin benched. I say keep it up for at least another game, preferably two.

Rumor is that they are trying to trade him. I don't know what we could get in return for him now. They could throw in Schultz to make the trade more enticing.  :)

This team still has so many issues. They're terrible defensively as a team right now. Really, really need Green back. He adds so much to the defense and to the PP. Though Orlov has shown some nice promise so far.

Rumors are out that within 72 hours Bruce Boudreau will be fired.
