I wouldn't call him a pimp, but he's hitting damn well right now. Of course, he did turn it on once we were already down and out. Isn't that the same as when relievers come in and pitch well when the game is already out of reach?

I get what you are trying to say, but what you speak of with the relievers is only an inning or two.  Belliard has been doing this in consecutive games.  I expect him to come back into the stratosphere sometime in the next few games.

Belliard better be NL Player of the Month.

I wouldn't count on it.

Ryan Ludwick's month so far:

I didn't mean to make it sound like what he's doing is completely worthless, but some players do play better when there's less pressure (no Lopez, low expectations).

He's leading the NL in hitting for the month of August. That's impressive. Belliard is hitting .278 on the season with 11 HRs. That's about all you can ask for and more from a "bench player".

Coming into August he was hitting .223. I'm just saying...

Do you guys think this offensive performance kind of frustrates Manny in a way? It has to a little.

Nice win. That was a lot of unexpected fun. Great game for the offense after a terrible start. Nice job by Lannan and the pitching staff to hold them to 5 runs in this bandbox with the wind blowing out.

That was a very impressive win, all things considered. We were playing against the best NL Home Team in the league (only 19th loss all year at home) plus we were playing on very short rest. While the Cubs were sleeping in their beds last night at home we were beating the Phillies' ass and didn't arrive in Chicago until 1 AM.

Great win.  The offense just wouldn't stop!

I don't think I've enjoyed myself this much following a Nats game while at work since the 2005 game at Pittsburgh where Church crashed into the wall to record the final out.

Was that really that hard?
The offense finally gets the bat on the ball.
The starting pitching has been living on no runs.
If they get used to some runs they might relax and actually
pitch even better.
This same team might get shut out tomorrow they are that
badly coached.

I think anyone who has this opinion forgets that there's another team - 99% of the time w/ better talent than us - on the field trying to win, too.

Since Starting Pitchers is 70-80% of the game, I disagree that 99% of the time there is better talent out there because 4 of our 5 starters are better than alot of pitchers they are facing.  Our hitters, though not as talented, have performed like minors leaguers for most of the season.  I think this can be blamed on coaching and stubborn strategy.

So that means that the other 20 guys account for only 20-30% of the game.  You seem to grossly overestimate the responsibility of starting pitching for the outcome of the game.
