The pitching is pretty good on this team. The problem is hitting, especially hitting with RISP. There seems to be an aura of failure whenever the Nats threaten. Is it their approach or are they just bad?

It's fair when there clearly was strike 3 not called?

Our bullpen was fantastic today.
Not saying it wasn't, but you're going to get bad calls, even obvious ones.  We had a couple go our way today, too, including one that kept us in the game an extra inning or two.  A huge part of this game is overcoming adversity and mentally staying in the moment.   It cost us the game today and is probably the biggest thing that's keeping this team from competing (that and a little more starting pitching talent).  That will come with experience.

We were robbed all weekend...but we got it no worse on the non strike 3 call to votto.  Awful umpiring.  Just awful.
No we weren't.  We were, what?  2-47 with RISP going into today.  The umps and pitching staff didn't lose us anything.

I didn't see all of it but did HRod keep it together early on in his appearance?  He looked decent the inning plus I saw.
He was ok.  He got 2 solid innings, but was his usual wild self a bit too, 3 walks and an intentional one, but he came up huge with runners on 1st and 3rd.  The arm and stuff is there, just gotta get more consistent...

Joe West should be a soccer ref, he'd fit right in with the antics and flopping. Hell, his neck fat flops all day long.

Joe West should be an extra in the next Megapiranha movie

Now, that's a movie I'd go see.  Oh, and when is MLB going to come up with some sort of fitness standards for their umps?  It doesn't make any sense to have guys in the shape Joe West is in officiating games with elite athletes.

The problem is streaky hitting. When the Nats' bats are hot, they can hit and beat any team. But when they're cold, they're ice cold and can't seem to generate any runs... for multiple games.

The MAIN problem though is their bad defense. Constant errors every game simply cannot happen if a team wants to ever compete for a playoff spot.

They had 17 hits today and managed 4 runs. But I bet Eckstein had all his charts squared away.

Yeah, that's pretty sad. But the Reds had 14 hits and only scored 5...

I really want to know what Eckstein has in those binders.  Gotta be compromising beefcake pictures.

I've said it before, but someone send Mike Carey to ump school ASAP.

Why did they take R Zim out and leave Marrero in the game? I missed a play or two...did they sub Bixler as a pinch-runner?

Otherwise, I think Morse belongs at 1B, RZ at 3B, Werth in RF, and build the rest of the lineup around that.

Interesting point. I gotta believe that we might pull that off if he starts the game

Thank you Quasimoto, I'll take that under consideration.  I believe Nurse Ratched is here with your medication now.

I believe it's "Quasimodo", unless you are calling him an alias rapper.
