Notched his 15th RBI today, but should've had more.  He had runners on 1st and 3rd in the 8th and absolutely scorched a line drive the other way ... the 2B made this amazing diving play for the double play.  Got the run in, but still.

I've watched the last few games and while he only has a couple hits to show for, he has absolutely smoked some pitches.

From Mike Newman's prospect chat at fangraphs yesterday.

Is it possible Middlebrooks Hood suffered due to early scouting reports? He was a football guy and never played baseball full time until he was a pro. His progression at every level seems to suggest he's just learning how to translate his raw tools into becoming a baseball player. His approach & contact rates seem to back this up.

Think this may apply to Hood, too?

.276 last year, .285 in 2010- that doesn't seem low to me

i don't see him as a 30 homer guy and a .280 20-25 homer corner outfielder is nothing special

There were less than 20 outfielders with a .280+ average and 20+ home runs- if that's his ceiling, he's a solid starter

Every player in your lineup is not going to be a 30 homer guy.

Not every prospect in your system will make the majors

I would drown a small puppy to get .280 and 20 bombs from my corner outfielder

Seriously, how is .280 and 20 bombs not impressive?

Thats pretty damn solid. Especially coming from a Nationals fan ... We've gotten TERRIBLE production from the outfield, and that's nothing to get excited about? Not to mention, he's also got the ability to steal 15-20 bases as well.

I guess we're all just pretending this season doesn't exist and he doesn't need hip surgery?

I got mixed up because people were talking about .280 and 20 bombs from an outfielder, which is similar to the numbers being discussed in the Bourjioijsodijs thread.
