iTunes users will wait for Apple. iTunes users make up the vast majority of the US digital market.

A few years ago I would've taken this at face value but now I think I'm going to need to see some sources.  I don't doubt they're still the majority, but "vast" might be overstating it a bit in 2011.

Iffy.  I would rather someone show me directly what % of the DIGITAL market is iTunes.  Indirect numbers can be twisted to make a headline.

Regardless, even if we say iTunes is 75% of digital sales, that's pretty low for a company that was the ONLY game in town a scant ~3 years ago.  Speaks volumes to the kind of inroads Amazon and others (Zune - no really, don't laugh) have made.

I'm sure you're right about Apple users though.

lol biased headline is biased.  iTunes is getting steadily closer to dropping from "majority" to "plurality" and all they're focused on is how *one* of it's competitors compares to it.

I'm actually surprised at that number, 63% is a lot lower than I would've guessed.  ~75 sounded more ballparkish.

I'd love to see the rest of the market share, but that's the best article I could find.

Still, I think Apple's "cloud" solution will be out before Amazon gains a ton of new users.

I'm a pretty hardcore Mac users but I agree with what he's saying.  Honestly, I don't care who does it as long as it works easy and I can get my Luddite parents to use it.

If you don't mind your screen saver being an ad, and a banner ad at the bottom of the home screen, you can get a Kindle for $114, or $25 off normal price.  No ads in between pages of the book, just the screen saver and at the bottom of the home screen.  That doesn't seem too bad.


Also, to Amazon for telling record labels they can go shove it:

Record labels seem to have a hard time understanding one, simple truth: after a consumer purchases a song — be it on a CD or digitally — the consumer owns that file. Period. It is, however, nice to know that at least one large corporation respects that fact, Amazon. In a letter penned to music labels, the online retail giant stated that its new Cloud Drive music service has boosted digital MP3 sales and goes on to explain why it does not need permission from record labels for its use. “There has been speculation that we are looking for licenses for Cloud Drive and Cloud Player,” reads the e-mail. “We are not looking for licenses for Cloud Drive or Cloud Player as they exist today — as no licensees are required.” Amazon continues, “Cloud Player is a media management and play-back application not unlike Windows Media Player and any number of other media management applications that let customers manage and play their music. It requires a license from content owners no more than those applications do. It really is that simple.” The company did mention that further improvements may require licensing, and that record labels can “expect to hear more” from Amazon on potential licensing “in the near future.” David Israeite of the National Music Publishers Association (NMPA) called the move “troubling,” and added that Amazon was not creating “an environment of trust and cooperation.”

Prime is what, $99 a year?  Too bad it doesn't play on every device under the sun like netflix though.  The selection is still smaller too.

Should be $64, because I got a 50% offer for $32 for the first year. I don't need it to play on anything but PC and Roku.
