Gameday Thread: Nationals vs Dodgers, Game 1
« Topic Start: August 02, 2005, 01:33:20 PM »

Jeff Weaver, RHP (8-8, 4.59)

Esteban Loaiza, RHP (6-6, 3.54)

Game Time: 7:05 PM

MLB Scouting Report:
Weaver's last two starts haven't been very pretty (11 runs, four homers in 13 2/3 innings), so the Dodgers are hoping he hasn't hit the wall. He beat the Nationals back in early May with one of his better starts, striking out seven in six innings.

On Tuesday, Loaiza will face the Dodgers for the second time this season. The last time he faced them was on May 2. Loaiza pitched six innings and gave up one run on three hits as the Nationals won the game, 6-2. He struck out seven batters and walked three in the game. In his last start, Loaiza pitched six innings-plus and gave up three runs -- two earned -- but he didn't figure in the decision as the Nationals lost to the Braves, 4-3.

If ever a matchup promised to be an easy win, this would be it.  However, we haven't exactly been pounding ANY pitchers lately, not even the mediocre to bad ones.

Reasons for optimism:

Nick Johnson is back, hitting on all cylinders.
We broke the losing spell, no monkey to carry around on our back.
Guzman showed improvement - let's hope.
Bullpen should be sufficiently rested.

Go get 'em Nats!

Games aren't won or lost because of pre game numbers. The Nats need to perform on the field. It would be nice if they all at once started hitting the caNatsus off the ball and give the fans something to help get that bandwagon loaded up again and keep it loaded until at least late October...

And yes, I made up the word caNatsus...

We can DO this.  Now's the time to get back in the saddle again.  Wild card, NL East or bust.  Let's go NATS!

Great.  A baserunning error and a fielding error within the span of one inning from Mr. Vidro.

Remind me why I should be patient with this guy?

edit: Okay, well he did turn the double play.

Did Guzman just have a good at bat?  Looked like he fouled a bunch off and then singled.

Indeed, that's exactly what he did.  He made the pitcher work hard then hit off of him!  A textbook at-bat!

From GUZMAN.

We got two men on, at the bottom of the lineup.  We really need to score here!

Jose has hit into a double play and stranded a player at 3rd, in two at bats.
