Too early to say but I think almost all of us would agree that he's been serviceable so far. If he worked on his defense and improved slightly I wouldn't complain.

I think as far as receiving throws he is ok, but his fielding leaves some to be desired he lets too many balls under his glove.

Considering that he didn't really have a whole lot of practice at 1B, he might actually become a decent one next year

I've seen worse. I'm still not sure that Willingham wouldn't be a better option.

DaMeat hook caused many Zim errors. Dunn has no issues digging out of the dirt.

I suppose the million dollar question would be..

Do we need to acquire a First Baseman in the offseason?

It depends on if Dunn can adapt on improve his defense there.  I like Dunn at first because it allows us to play Willingham, Morgan, and Dukes in the OF.  Willingham has expressed interest to play at first, so give him some looks too.  If one of them can cover it adequately, then I say no, we don't need one.  2B is a much more pressing issue IMO.

I think Dunn is fine so far at first base. He definitely needs to work on fielding though, its mediocre right now.

that should be a low priority. 2B is most important.

We need to find out if Dukes is starter-worthy because if not we would probably still need a 1B-man or corner OFer.

i say relief pitching, then 2b. then a veteran starter. not a last-chance retread, but a bonafide starter.

we got clippard, Burnett, maybe bergmann, and ???? in the pen for next year. addressing this should be top priority. then the other things.

Well the way he picked Zim's throw on the Cody Ross grounder I'd say he's looked pretty good so far.

Clippard

MacDougal

We need a second baseman

and like you said a great starter.

Dunn can manage at 1b so far it seems.

On a Pass/Fail scale, he gets a Pass-.

We need a real first baseman, next season.  At 1st base, Dunn is a fall back option.

He's horrible. To be fair, it's been 6 games since he took over full time. He should get better with playing time and if he works hard before games. Ryan Howard's worked his butt of this year to be a better defensive play, and he still is below average so I wouldn't expect too much.

As for adding a firstbaseman, maybe via trade but the FA class is dreary.

He's horrible.

You don't think that's overstating it a bit?

No. 5 errors in 15 starts. Even fangraphs (which JCA quotes too much) has him rated as the worst firstbaseman by such a wide margin it's laughable.

But weren't four of those earlier in the season when he wasn't playing there full-time?  I think you're over-reacting.

I don't think I'm overreacting. I'm stating my belief that he has been horrible to date. You will notice that I also said he should improve but people shouldn't expect him to become a quality firstbaseman overnight. That even with hard work, it will take time.

I guess I just don't see the merit in judging anything but his performance at the position since the NJ trade.  You're usually pretty good about giving real reasons instead of just meaningless stats, and I'd say 5 errors in 15 starts when 5 of those starts were spot starts months ago is a pretty worthless stat.

You're just grumpy. Without saying how bad he has been, how can you judge his improvement? To pick out one aspect of his play wouldn't be fair, because even if he shows some ability in one area it should improve.
