According to RotoWorld, the Nats signed lefty reliever, John Halama to a minor league contract and called up Tony Blanco

I know the Chief has gotten out of worse, but this still does not look good...

We have to admit, the Nats have no business winning this game, they don't deserve it

I can't believe Guillen struck out on a change up that was at nose level.  he looked as bad as I have seen him.  Too bad Church is in a major funk right now.  I sure wouldn't mind having Bryd called up right now.

Well...  that's 12 straight one-run losses.  Not trying to start anything, but if you believe in the law of averages, we've now averaged out.  12 straight one-run wins followed by 12 straight one-run losses.  Here's hoping that was the last one for a while :?

How can a team win 12 straight 1 run games, then lose 12 straight 1 run games? The more I watch this team, the more I think their ever having been in first place was a fluke.

I think after watching them play the slimping Padres, we can start talking about next year.

This team needs too much help to win.

We have a real problem at 3rd base.  Castilla has hit a wall.  He is in a 4-45 slump, he swings at EVERYTHING, he pulls off every pitch, but what is worse is his defense.  His range is gone and he is not making plays we need (i.e., 8th inning lead off grounder).  His knees have done him in.  It is clear that we are going to stick with Guzman at short, but let's shake up 3rd right now.  Can Orie or Short play the position every day, with Baerga getting some spot starts?  Somebody help me out here.

Bowden needs to get tough with both Castilla and Guillen. They should both go on the DL so they can help the team later. The Nats don't need to have two 1/2 players in the lineup who are doing more damage than good.

Call up Watson and put him in left, (unless he's just as good in RF) bat him leadoff, and let Blanco play 3B while Vinny gets better, or call up Harris and give him the job until Castilla comes back.

In New Orleans, at 3B...
Brendan Harris (.282 BA, .335 OBP, .425 SLG) has the most games at 2B (58) and 3B (40)

Melo has played mostly as a backup SS (29 games) and 3B (22 games) and has 8 errors in 56 games while every INF position.
He's hitting .335 BA, .376 OBP, .531 SLG

Kevin Orie plays mostly 1B, and has a few games at 3B, but he wont be called up, he's stuck in the minors.

I couldn't agree more that Castilla has hit a brick wall.  He just turned 38 and that could have been the magic age where he just shut down.  Don't be surprised if they call up Zimmerman.
