Man, where have I been?  Sorry I've missed this board for so long.  Thanks to masn online, I found you guys.

Although I am emphatically NOT a Chico Harlan psychophant (hee hee) I have been known to hang around NJ far more frequently than is healthy, so I hope I'm still welcome here.  Looks like plenty of interesting posts here which is sadly more than I can say for NJ these days.

BTW, these little smileys on people's posts are making me rofl   So freaking cute!

I was wondering if there was going to be an influx of new members thanks to MASN.

Welcome aboard!

Welcome, Mr. Nut.   Undecided

Anyway, I will point out that WNFF is THE most frequented message forum in the Nats blogosphere, although braggadocio posts like mine tend to lower the average quality of discourse.  Still, welcome aboard and leave no stone unturned in finding your niche.  And feel free to exploit the expansive capabilities of the forum to express yourself.   <laughing>

Of course you are welcome. Smiley While food critic says some stuff that requires taking the piss out of him he's a good kid. Granted, I pick on him more than most. Hell, I'll even welcome Chico's toadies. A Nats fan is a Nats fan.

Nats Journal? Yet another site?

The Post's board that is embedded in what is now mostly Chico Harlan's domain, called Nats Journal.

Some quality posters there, but the software is terrible, almost impossible to find old stuff.  Mostly confined to discussions about the most recent article posted.

Hello all! I'm a big Nats fan although clearly not as knowledgeable as you all are. I'm a state employee, I live in western Maryland and am also a Redskins fan and a Terps fan in all sports.

Welcome Terpfan76!  There is a nice mix here.  Some folks with team connections, others who still play in adult leagues, some who are maybe a bit too comfortable with stats, some hard core fans who know the entire system in and out, but mostly folks who just like talking about baseball and this team.  If you get confused by some of the inside jokes, there is a "meme" thread in the community section that helps (such as the origin of the term "Hagersburg").  Do you catch any Hagerstown games?

I've been to a few, but it's been a couple of years. I used to work in Hagerstown, but I've since transferred to Allegany County where I live.

I guess I should also offer up a little background. As a kid, I'm 33 now, I was a huge Will Clark fan which lead me also to be a Giants fan. But once Clark left SF, I just followed the teams he played for, except the O's. I just can't make myself root for the O's. Once Clark retired, I just watched baseball off and on, but didn't care that much, until the Expos moved to D.C. and became the Nats. Now I watch as many Nats games as possible and my current favorite player is Ryan Zimmerman. Zimmy reminds me a bit of Matt Williams in his prime, but I think Zimmerman is a better overall hitter, especially with the protection Dunn provides. My second favorite player is probably Willie Harris. I love the fact that he can play any position aside from catching and pitching. Love having players like that on my team.

Zimm's OK, but he's so....2006....Willie's a good guy, but the guy you're REALLY gonna love is Morgan
(btw, I am NOT one of the more knowledgable Nats fans...just ask anybody).

Welcome TF76.

Sounds like you've made careful and thorough evaluation and choosing of your sports allegiences.   <thumbs up>  With that sound logic, you'll figure out the "insiders" baseball geek stuff in no time.

Re western Md, my father's a native of Mount Savage.  We get up from time to time to recreate or just visit the few kin we have left up there.

I'd like to do the I-68 drive through MD in the daytime, seems like there would be nice views. At night, it seems like you are constantly going over a cliff <laughing>

You should have tried the old Route 40, before 68 was constructed.  Can't tell you how many times (when I was a kid) my dad had to pull over for me to barf along the side of the road.  And Sidling Hill?  You had to go up and over that mutha, none of this pansy-assed cutting halfway down the mountain to smooth out the road.  Then came the hairpin turns.....    <bleh!>
