Baseball Watching Guide for Younger Fans

Yes, your parents are out to get you. Manny Acta, Jim Bowden, and Stan Kasten, however, are not.

The internet can do a lot, but it doesn't want to listen to you whine.

Good pitches get hit.

Good players have bad days, weeks, months, seasons.

Players might have funky hair, or have a walk up song you like, but this doesn't make them good at baseball.

Bad players have good days.

The guys on the other team are trying to win too.

Get angry when a great player does something great, but deep inside be happy you get to witness his career.

If a player makes a mistake he is more upset at himself than you are.

Finally, enjoy being young. It won't happen again. However, blown saves, walk-offs, and web gems will.

Interesting post. Don't think that it applies to all younger fans, though, and also think that it could be applied to some older fans, generally speaking.

For example ... Be angry that Brandon Webb pitched a shutout against the Nats cuz the Nats lost, but inside, be happy that you witnessed one of the best pitching performanes of the year ...

OK, missed that the line was about the opposing team.
Love it!

And if you're a Little Leaguer, take a lesson from those kids from GA.  If the team you beat is crying their eyes out, no obligatory slap of "good game".  Give the kid a hug, look in his eyes and tell him he played well.

I watched the Little League World Series yesterday.  After they congratulated each other, I saw a kid or 2 looking at the Japan kids who were crying and as if to say 'come on guys', go over to the pitcher who was beside himself in tears (like a few of his team mates too) and give him a hug.

Such sportsmanship is rare and these kids were not only a good team, but compassionate human beings as well!

No, I WISH I was funny, but more often than not fall short.  Last week I posted (on the MLB board) what was (in my own mind) a witty, funny false news report (a la the "Onion") that reported how the Texas Rangers 3rd base coach was hospitalized following the 30-3 win over the Orioles, for excessive "windmill" motions of the arm / shoulder.  I think one person got it.

So no, I am just not feeling funny this week, and probably trying too hard.  But after a few days absence, you seem on top of your game.  Did you have a short vacation, or just take a few days away from us?

Heck, tomterp, of course you're funny. The folks on the MLB board must have been off their game that day, that's all. So was it a rotator cuff injury? :)

That's not only funny, that's hilarious! Why did you waste it on the "other board"? WE would have gotten it over here, although you would have risked having your thread labeled, "SATIRE! Warning: Dangerous to your health!" (sigh)

To Evolution, on the original post in this thread: Well done, and I hope some adults take your sage words to heart.

Um, now, what was this about funky hair and bubble gum? No one can possibly mean that I admire The Vinny only for his hair. I take it this reference was to some other person, with a fixation on the 'do of a lesser player.
