Most disgusting Phillies fan behavior
« Topic Start: April 06, 2010, 01:12:33 PM »
I need to vent because I'm still hot about a couple of things I saw yesterday.

1) I walk through the turnstiles and the guy in front of me--a Phillies fan--gets his free hat and looks like he doesn't know what to do with it. I said, "Hey, I'll take that off your hands." He said, "No, I'm going to use it to wipe my a**." Classy guy, I thought, and walked away.

2) I'm parked in the Garage C parking lot. As my group makes its way back to our car after the game, we had the pleasure of walking by two Phillies fans taking a p*ss in the corner of Level 2. Two classy guys, I thought, and kept walking.

Maybe not disgusting per se, but some woman sitting behind us yesterday made a comment to the effect of "Haha, Nationals fans probably don't even know why Philly fans are booing when he throws the ball to first" (referring to a pickoff attempt by Lannan).

Yeah, sure lady.  Because Philly fans are the erudite elite when it comes to understanding the game

-Carrying large signs for Roy Halliday.

-Being intentionally boorish and loud in my ear like an attempt to be a 7th grade bully. (Was minutes away from getting an usher, and firmly told him to knock it off many times).

-Asking where the corner of R and I is, and getting indignant when informed that intersection is impossible and doesn't exist (this is hearsay)

-Shortness of pants disproportionate to attractiveness of person

-Threating bartenders

and once again, neither Stan nor anyone in the team's exec office cares, so as long as they pay, Philthies fans can trash the park

this org. has turned into a bad joke

They should care, there are only so many games against the Phillies. They also have tickets to Marlins games to sell

As I posted on the message board:

Opening Day used to be fun - win or lose. Yesterday was the worst baseball experience I can remember in 50+ years.

Not only do they take over the stadium - and one can offer rationalizations for that - they boo our players during the ritual pre-game announcement - they booed loudly.

Why isn't coming here, rooting for your team, and seeing them win, enough? They feel compelled to also make the day miserable for the few Nats fans who have waited six months to enjoy opening day.

The philly fans are obnoxious, fat, stupid, and they smell bad. And their women are ugly. I hope they all die.

T-shirt toss - watched an adult male (Fillie phan) snatch the t-shirt away from the 8 year old girl in front of him (also a Fillie phan) - her Dad seemed to be OK with this for some reason.

Watched a 12 year old boy - do I need to say Fillie phan - wave a ball he had snagged under the nose of a 6 year old girl who had been trying to get Victorino to toss her a ball all afternoon - again, all parents involved seemed to condone this behavior.....

Maybe a petition is in order. Group sales to out of town fans on opening day should be abolished. Diehard fans on this board overpaid just to get in the door because these morons booked party buses before we could even have a chance to get tickets. Obviously the heavily populated season ticket sections had less morons than say the Scoreboard Pavilion where there are few regulars, and its where they like to seat groups.

Over on Nats Insider, Mark Zuckerman made this great point:

Quote
Some pro sports franchises have attempted before to restrict fans from opposing cities buying up tickets in bulk. The Capitals, most notably, have tried to keep Penguins fans from taking over Verizon Center by preventing phone sales that come from the Pittsburgh area code.

Asked if the Nationals discussed a similar attempt to restrict Philadelphia fans from buying seats to yesterday's game, Kasten wrote: "We tried to limit it, but not cut it off completely."

Difference between Caps and Nats?  Caps are in it for the fans and to win ... the Nats are in it to make money and save money.

Nebraska football fans have a reputation of traveling very well.  I've seen them overtake stadiums all over the conference, in California and at Notre Dame.  I've seen the other schools in the conference use that same tactic in trying to keep Nebraska fans from overtaking their stadium.  And it worked to a large degree, it didn't keep them all out, but it did reduce the number of fans we were able to get in the building.

I would've turned around to her and said, "yeah, sure lady, as if Philly fans even knew baseball existed before CBP opened."

I think Mr. Kasten should stop by the bars in the Red Porch and the Red Loft on Wednesday and Thursday about the 5th or 6th inning, and talk to the staff about their experience with the opposing teams fans over the past few days.

Back in the day Ted couldn't give tickets away, the building was filled with opposing fans because the team sucked, he had no problem selling to Pittsburgh fans then, because there was no DC fan demand. Things are completely different now because the Caps are a winning franchise and DC fans want to see them play. But it's not like it was always like that.

For the record, I whole heartedly applaud Ted for his ticket policies during the playoffs. It's wonderful to have home ice advantage actually be a home ice advantage. But it wasn't always like that. One can only hope that when/if the time comes and the Nats are in the same boat, the organization will do the same for Nats fans. Hope springs eternal.

I don't see what the problem is here.  As a fan of Cornell hockey, I frequently go to the arenas of other teams and openly root against the home team.  I've seen nothing Phillies fans do that doesn't rival what Cornell fans do in hockey.

It seems to me, the best way for the home team to shut the fans of opposing teams up is to win more games.  Once the Nats start winning more games, less and less Phillie fans will bother showing up and those that do will feel what Nats fans feel at this very moment.

Two more gems:

"John Lannan plays for the Nats?"

After his first at bat: "Lannan is a lefty?"

No they won't, because they'll be in another team's park.

Due to the close proximity of Washington to Philadelphia, you're ALWAYS going to have Phillies fans show up when we play the Phillies at home.

Do you threaten the bartenders? Swear in front of children? Deliberately annoy people? I don't even need to ask. Cheering and applause for their teams success is fine.

Well, no.  Not in front of children and certainly not to those who serve us food and drink.

But we react to game events with a rather brazen arrogance and I'm absolutely certain we annoy the home fans to the point of wanting to beat the crap out of us.  I've even been at games with other Cornell fans taunting BOTH teams when Cornell isn't playing that particular game (for example, the other game of a semi-final or for a consoloation game).

Then, you'll have to forgive me for being ignorant here.  What exactly do you mean by:

No they won't, because they'll be in another team's park.

No they won't because they'll be visitors in another team's park.  I'm not sure how that's unclear.  Do you think we're ever going to be invited by the busload to CBP to drown out the last-place Phillies fans, harass them, boo their players during ceremonies and introductions, and verbally abuse their staff?

:hurr:

Then you're right, I missed the point.

But you can still get that affect when they play here in Washington.  Besides when (if) the Nats ever get to where the Phillies are now, why not go there and do to them what they've done to us?  It's not like Philly has a long history of showing up for teams that suck - the Phillies will suck one day and we can use this as some sort of rallying point when we can take advantage of it.

Sure that's a nice thought, and in principle I agree with you, but do you think it'll ever actually happen?  I kinda doubt it.  We just aren't as classless of a fanbase as they are.  It's a good thing.

Maybe we could just hire Mets fans to go in our stead?
