Ahh, the joys of Jewish cooking!
The extent of my "Jew Food" experience is pretty much just bagels with lox and cream cheese. I've always wanted to try "gefilte fish" if you'll pardon the probably way off spelling.

Some of it sounds appetizing like corned beef on rye, and some of it sounds horrible like chicken fat spread on bread, chopped liver, or cow tongue. It's all delicious. Gefilte fish is floating in jelly made from fish bones.

We've got a crapload of rotisserie chicken joints here in the 'hood...aside from the old stalwarts (Granja de Oro, Pollo Campero, etc) we've got "Cluck U", "Little Peckers", and "Senor Chicken"...awesome.
Can anyone recommend a good one in Manassas suitable for taking the kids?

as long as we're on the topic of recipes that are terrible for you, might I suggest this: The Bamberg Onion. I've never made, but I saw it on Thirsty Traveler and have always wanted to try it. If you can find rauch (or smoke) beer, it's a treat, the best way to describe it is beer that tastes like bacon. Wegmans carries it, as does Whole Foods.
---- Ingredients for 4 servings: 4 big onions, 250 g pork, 100 g cooked smoked pork, 4 slices smoked bacon, ¼ litre Original Schlenkerla Smokebeer, salt, pepper, mace, marjoram, 3 eggs, 2 bread rolls, chopped parsley 2 tablespoons brown meat stock.
Preparation: Peel the onions, cut approx. 1 cm off of the root end. Scoop out the onion until the sides are approx. 1 cm thick. Put pork and smoked pork with the insides of the onion through meat grinder. Mix the results with the eggs, bread rolls, spices and the parsley. Fill the 4 onions and let them roast in a casserole with some water and without lid for about 45 minutes at 200° C. Fry the smoked bacon and put it on each onion; put the cut-off onion end on top of the bacon. When done, remove onions from casserole. Pour the drippings from the casserole into a skillet; add brown meat stock, flour, spices and the Schlenkerla Smokebeer; heat and stir until the gravy becomes thick. Bamberg Stuffed Onions are served with mashed potatoes or boiled potatoes.

Moti's in Rockville (inside KosherMart) covers both European and Israeli food really well, and it's all strictly kosher.

I'd like to mention the Parkway Deli, mainly because they have the good sense to be on Grubb road.

That guy told me that he drives weekly up to Manhattan to buy half cooked bagels, and finished them in the store. I don't know if he was BS'n me but the bagels are very good, albeit a limited selection. He's got the full aray of lox, knippers, whitefish, whatever else goes on them. Excellent quality. And within 2 miles of my house.

Sounds a bit insane - if you just boil them, it saves you a lot of driving. That place had a good breakfast if I remember correctly.

Uhh. I've wanted a good chicken place for years to come here. I don't recall any unless its the chicken connected with another restaurant: SUPER CHICKEN - Haven't tried them yet. A little hole in the wall near Pot Belly Subs. Red Hot and Blue - Near the Burger King in front of the Mall - has good chicken and pulled chicken sandwiches. Guapos -not bad. In Manassas Park on the corner of 28 and Manassas Drive. I never went to this one but the one that USED to be near my house had good chicken. Now that area is going to be a Walgreens. Is Walgreens any relation to WALMART? Because they are taking over Manassas.

Nope. I find Walgreen's to be a pretty convenient store, though.

Tanker truck. There isn't a lot of water used in the bagel and any water can be used to cook them.

And don't ask me what is so special about Manhattan bagels vs. ones procured or constructed locally, cause I don't know. I'm just dutifully reporting what the guy told me, and he was adament that his bagels were superior because of their lineage.

I've heard that the water makes a difference but only the water that is used in the bagel itself.

Maybe it's the water, I don't know. But I have yet to find a bagel here as good as in NY. Same with pizza.
