So what do you think?  Keep in mind this is what you think WILL happen, not what you would PREFER to happen.

Nats will dump him at the trade deadline to an AL team for 2-3 mid-level prospects.

I would prefer the prospects over the draft pick(s) in this case.

In what bizarro scenario would the Nats ever extend Adam Dunn? I just can't see it.

I'm guessing the Nats trade him to someone in the American League for a couple of prospects.

They've dropped a few hints in that direction.  Perhaps just preserving options, providing motivation, but perhaps serious?

It depends.

If we're around .500 at the deadline, we'll probably hold on to him until the end of the season. Then we'll either extend him if he did pretty well in the field and had another great offensive year, or we'll let him go if we don't think he's going to last much longer as an NL player.

If we suck for the first of half of the season, we'll trade him.

Just vote the overall outcome you think most likely <laughing>

I think I'd pinch myself if the team played .500 ball up to the break.  How sad is that?

I take the Nats at face value when they say they want to extend him.  I think they may pay him more than anyone else, and he'll take the money.  3 years, $30m gets it dunn.

where does CM play if they extend Dunn?

And who says Dunn wants to stay here anyways? You don't think he would rather play the field and just hit in the AL for the rest of his career?

My guess is that Marrero plays in the minors this year and is traded if Dunn is extended.  I'm not saying that is what I want, I'm just saying what I think will happen.

And actually, I think he does want to play in the field so he will want to extend with the only NL team that will play him in the field. He gets to hang with Zimmerman, too, and gets more money than any other NL team will pay him.

I know CM is going to play in the Minors this year but I figure he would be ready to roll by 2011.

Why does Dunn want to play in the field? Nats shouldn't settle for defense or offense only players. This is NL.

Chris Marrero is like Dunn without fully developed power and all the walks. I've wanted them to trade him for years - his value has dropped now.

Don't extend him. Offer him arbitration, if he doesn't accept, we get a draft pick. If he accepts, we get Dunn for 1 more year while Marrero can master AAA.

I would rather have Dunn at first and Josh Johnson pitching than Marrero and the two pitching prospects and one other prospect that would be given up to get Johnson.

If Marerro is in Syracuse and doing well next year, they would be fools not to trade Dunn.

Marrero is far from a sure thing, Dunn is as predictable as it gets. Why take a risk unless Marrero shows realized potential or vastly improves defensively. Dunn is just hitting his prime.

Agreed, with the caveat that they should listen to all offers and move him if they are blown away.

Agreed.....How many young AAA players fail to make it to the Bigs?
