You all realize that asking for autographs at the park is entirely different than tracking the team down at the hotel?

bad days? <overused emoticons>
that's the funniest thing i've ever heard
You suck at handling burden of proof. Anyway, I'm not going to waste my time (and to be sure, it IS a waste) arguing with SF and CatsEye. You guys go on thinking whatever you like. Back to whatever this thread was about...

Back to the topic... This morning on Baseball This Morning a Red Sox fan theorized that the Sox should contact the Nats and see what it would take to get Adam Dunn. Jim Duquette said that Dunn is worth no more than a AAA prospect. Guess that's why he's been fired for incompetence from two organizations.

Dunn is not worth a dime on the trade market. Look at what the Reds got for him a few years ago. Nada.

As much as I think you are a deaf dumb and blind oaf when it comes to discussions about Dunn, there is some merit to this statement. Something - in this case, a player - is only worth what others are willing to pay for it.

He doesn't have huge value, but I think if he continues to prove that he can at least not embarrass himself at first, he's got pretty decent value. When he was in Cincy, I think there was some skepticism that his numbers were inflated for the ballpark, and he was butchering the outfield. Kudos to the Nats for moving him to where he can do less harm.

exactly. no one wants a defensive hack who hits home runs, draws walks, and strikes out except for lowly teams like the Nats.

Not a great example. That was to get rid of the rest of his salary and to dump him before they nontendered him. It was pure financial play for them. The d'backs also had to play him in the field. That really does not tell you what could be had for him in the AL for a team that can play him as DH. That's not the Red Sox unless they move Ortiz and maybe Lowell, too, but to bring this back to Dexter's post, he might not be a bad guy for the NYY, in lieu of resigning Damon or Matsui. I could see the ChiSox or perhaps the Angels getting involved (assuming Abreu is an OF and not a DH).

Catch for another year. Romine / Montero are not ready, and they have not signed Mauer yet.

Are you dense, or did you just forget saying this?: I wish I could find the post from the Nats.com board of one specific incident but I can't find it.
I can read just find. In fact, my ability to read hampered my ability to surmise what you were quoting. But really, your fault for quoting a message board at all. What garbage.

Where does Posada play?
He's going to be our catcher for at least 1 more season. His contract is up after 2011. 2 more seasons and his days with the Yankees are probably over.

I think he's pretty valuable as a DH. He would be the best DH in the AL... IMO

Dexter - the thing is that it may not be a good use of a roster spot to tie one up with a DH. Having the flexibility to move a guy who can hit but not field (think A-Rod coming back form injury) or to give a vet a rest (think Damon, or even Jeter, as well as Posada), is an asset for the NYY and probably a liability for their traditional divisional rival. The Red Sox right now are going through machinations to find a way to keep Lowell's and Ortiz's bat in the line up at the same time. Really, this past decade, how many teams play with a DH who only plays the field in interleague? Ortiz, Hafner, Edgar until he retired. Matsui and Vladi last year were mostly the result of injury. Even Billy Butler plays in the field. Dunn is Dunn, and would be the best hitting exclusive DH in the league, most likely. But exclusive DHs take huge value discounts.

An article in Baseball Prospectus a year or so ago made the point that many AL teams grossly underleverage their DH position. You'd think the DH would be a really potent offensive force, but it seemed filled with washed up has-beens. Players like Dunn, or Bonds, whould have been huge upgrades for most teams, and at reasonable cost.
