Quote
Third Base – Ryan Zimmerman, Washington

Third base is a very strong, deep defensive poistion in baseball right now. I would be comfortable with any of the top nine guys in our voting winning The Fielding Bible Award—or the Gold Glove award, for that matter—this year. Ryan Zimmerman has broken out of the pack in my estimation, however, by becoming the Defensive Runs Saved leader at third base over the last three years. His first Fielding Bible Award is well deserved. The rest of the best: Adrian Beltre, Chone Figgins, Evan Longoria, Scott Rolen, Brandon Inge, Pedro Feliz, Jack Hannahan and Joe Crede.

He came in ninth last year. A lot of people here were upset about that.

Nyjer Morgan came in second as a left fielder (he played more games in left this season).

Dewan's a pioneer in the study of fielding, this is certainly a more credible accolade than gold glove or any other survey type award.

EDIT:  Upon further research (actually reading the description of how the awards were determined) it appears that this one too is a survery, albeit a fairly well chosen small group doing the responses.

Just a guess:  his #7 was Youk.  How he can be that much of an outlier on Longoria is a mystery.

Fortunately for Zimmermann, senile people can vote.

[edit - his #7 was probably Kouz.]

Zimm might have gotten a tail wind from that big ESPN made for TV award.

I'm throwing that chart in SF's face any time he quotes Bill James from now on.

It's entirely possible it came from the "Tango Fan Poll"

Morticia is hot, and Gomez well knows it, but she's on to his tactics.

Among others receiving votes, David Wright, 2 points.    lmao

There will always be fans of ponderous, slow moving fielders who "play the game the right way".

I honestly don't know who or what you're talking about.  I think at some point in the past a few people may have said they'd take Wright over Zimmerman because at the time Wright's bat was quite a bit better.  That's obviously not the case anymore, and I don't think ANYONE ever claimed that Wright had a better glove, so why are you so hung up on this?  People's opinions change based on available evidence, you know.

David Wright not even mentioned, making it all the more laughable if he wins the GG.

Chief, no one has EVER said that Wright was a better fielder than Zimmerman. until this season, it was said that Wright was a better hitter, but it's NEVER, EVER been said that he was a better fielder.

SF is just an idiot.

Sportsfan is sop delusional that he sees "not worshipping the ground Zimmerman walks on" as analogous to "loving david wright".

David Wright did win 2 gold gloves so someone had to say that he was a better fielder
