I'd love for the Nats to draft him...in 2013...at the end of the first round.

Jameson Taillon has committed to Rice University ... as a Rice student, I hope he comes here (even if the Nationals draft him!).

Dude, if the #1 high school baseball player in America committed to your university, you'd feel proud too. Next year I'd rather see Taillon winning the CWS in Omaha for my Owls than having a 1.35 WHIP in Hagerstown.

What do you think of them shutting him down for even stuff like autographs at this point?

You gotta remember he's only 17, and he was getting buried in requests, hounded by paparrazi sports reporters, not to mention autograph hounds, half of which are in it for profit.

Apparently his performance fell off significantly last fall when he was exposed to the crush of interest, so they're trying to put enough distance between him and the distractions so he can actually breath, as well as focus on his game.  He might never become the player he should if not allowed to develop.

So I'm okay with it.  There's no right to an autograph, particularly from college kids.

Heh, so it is.

I didn't even know the kid had a brother.

Geez, and that's after moving up to college ball and having to deal with all the notoriety.

Has anyone gone straight from jr. college to the major league level yet?  He could be the first.

For comparison, Albert Pujols played 1 year at Maple Woods Community College, batting .461 with 22HRs and 80 RBIs (hitting a grandslam off Mark Buerhle and turning an unassisted triple play in his first game.  He played one full season in the minors going from A to AAA (skipping AA).

If Harper is everything they say he is, and we assume he's signed next August, he should be on the field to start the 2012 season.

Harper's got an annoying habit of stepping out of the box after every pitch, and going through a lengthy ritual of glove adjustments and other garment tuning that seems more extensive than what Ryan Church used to do.

Does he have a habit of scratching his balls like Julio Lugo?

If he's the next Albert Pujols or Joes Mauer, I'll live with it.

I don't think anyone will ever touch the pre-pitch routine of Nomar.

Exactly what I was thinking. Is he still using a wooden bat? I recall reading that he was using one, correct me if I'm wrong please.

Here's a link to Harper seeing a few pitches before a homer.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e8yqHxFWGaI

After each pitch,
step out of the box
grab the barrel of the bat
reset velcro on left glove
reset velcro on right glove
take full practice cut
take half cut
take another half cut (optional)
step back in for next pitch.

Also, I'm sure after a while the umps would be on him with the mandate to speed up play in the pros.
