He seems to play a pretty decent 2nd to me. Yeah, he goes through a wild phase for a few weeks each season, but I'd leave him there if possible.
So would I, just trying to figure out why they'd sign Polanco.

There are radio reports floating around down here that Uggla is a Giant.
Anybody hear anything? I can't find a thing online. If true, I'm closing the office tomorrow and it's party time!

According to MLBTR, the Marlins have not even arrived at Winter Meetings yet. They're coming tonight.

I guess congrats are in order for Ross Gload for getting away from Beinfest and Loria, even if he had to go to Philly to do it. Bonifacio is now the Marlins power lefty.

The Fish are having a LOT of trouble getting rid of Uggla. The rest of the teams recognize Uggla for the LOB/defensively liability he is, and crap for brains Beinfest thinks Uggla is worth a top of rotation pitcher and a couple top prospects. The Giants apparently just told Beinfest to pound salt, and now the Orioles are backing out, and nobody else has shown any interest. It's beginning to look like even with the lowest salary in the game, the Fish will be again pissing away 1/4 of it on a player off the roster just to get rid of yet another Beinfest mistake. At least the dumbass had two years where the highest paid player on the payroll was actually a Marlin.

The Marlins did not tender Nolasco. Screw you, NatsAddict. Correction: they DID tender Nolasco a contract.

I meant to say "did tender." I'm beginning to think NatsAddict posts here just to give Nats fans false hope about everything.

If the fish can't find a sucker for Uggla, about 1/5 the payroll just evaporated.
It is sounding like the Fish want to keep Nolasco & JJ, but with Uggla things are screwy.
Helms: $1.0 Hanley: $7.0 Paulino: $1.1 Miller: $2.7 Total under contract: $11.8
Arby (at lowest estimates) Uggla: $7 JJ: $4.5 Nolasco: $3.0 Cantu: $5.5 Ross: $4.5 Nunez: $2.0 Pinto: $1.5 Total Arby: $28.0
Other 14 at league minumum of $400K: $5.6
Grand Total: $45.4
Loria budget for 2010: $36.0
Need to cut/trade: $9.4 Pinto & Uggla would eliminate about $8.5, but 2 new league minimums would add $800K, netting $7.7 and leaving a net of $1.7 to go. Adding a league minimum of $400K, that means another player with at least $2.1 in 2010 salary is slated to be traded.
The Marlins are short a LH bat off the bench, unless it is Bonifacio, and G*d forbid anybody, even a pitcher, it so bad Bonifacio hits for him. If Pinto is traded, Myers is the sole lefty in the pen, though Miller may end up there and Tankersley could be called up.

Nolasco: 1 year for $3.8 per Crasnick on Twitter.
If true, a bit of a budget buster for the Fish. Maybe Loria will try to have the CBA changed and cut 2 league minimum players to get back the $800K.

Can't find an online link yet, but Sosnick just confirmed Nolasco's $3.8 on the radio. Sosnick is also Josh Johnson's agent, and if Nolasco just received $3.8, JJ's gotta be in the $6 range.
Maybe Ross or Cantu is leaving along with Uggla. Something else is going to give.

Florida Marlins: Ricky Nolasco agrees to terms > Posted by Juan C. Rodriguez on December 17, 2009 03:38 PM
Arbitration-eligible right-hander Ricky Nolasco agreed to a one-year, $3.8 million contract. That's a $1.4 million raise from what he earned in 2009. The deal does not have any bonus clauses.
The Marlins now have seven arbitration-eligible players left: Dan Uggla, Jorge Cantu, Cody Ross, Josh Johnson, Anibal Sanchez, Leo Nunez and Renyel Pinto. Players can file for arbitration between Jan. 5-15. Once figures are exchanged on Jan. 19, the Marlins' policy is to stop negotiating and prepare for a hearing. That's interesting. The SWAG Dave Cameron came up with for arbitration contracts I thnk is .3-.5-.7-.9 of free agent market value for Super 2 arbitration guy. So Nolasco jump from $2.4m to $3.8m is fairly close to in-line with the SWAG in terms of percentage increase year to year, but it seems they price him at $7.6m as a free agent. That seems low and seems to punish him for his ERA last year when, otherwise, when he pitched well. Good price for the Marlins. They can deal him at the deadline if they are noncontenders and he pitches well.
